Patterns From The Past: From 50 Years Past! A Suit From Simplicity Pattern 7439

Yes, today's pattern is not only "from the past", but it's actually from fifty years past!
Yes indeed, as you can see below, this pattern graced the cover of the Simplicity Fashion News booklet in January of 1967, sewn up in a nice red, white and blue plaid and modeled by none other than the lovely Shelley Hack:
And here is a picture of the pattern front:
"Designer Fashion" straight out of the 60's,  shown here with the jacket in red and the blouse and skirt done up in beige:
And the skirt and jacket in the same green print knit with the blouse in a pale blue:
(Sorry, Miss - and you are lovely, too - but I say Shelley wore it better!)
And last of all today,  we have the back of the pattern:

Yes, ladies, why don't you sew yourself up a suit from 1967 today?
(That is, if you have the pattern, of course!)

A Christmas Craft Fair

Hi! Sis Lori here, today.
This past fall I sold my items at two different craft fairs.
One, unfortunately, was not well attended, but the other
was better.
I make a variety of crafts, most using vintage items.
I have a very good friend who shares the table and fees with me.
She makes beautiful beaded jewelry, bracelets, earrings, etc., as you can see below:
I finally made a few vintage baby block Christmas trees, so that was a new item this time for me:
Also new were vintage tart tin ornaments with vintage Christmas
seals used in the background and other added adornments.
I made some glass garland candy canes, too - that idea came from the talented Magpie Ethel!
Also seen in my photos are key fobs, vintage button rings, snowman tea lights, etc.
The snowman Hershey nuggets shown at the bottom in the photo above are very popular; it seems I can never make enough!!! These are my standard, repurposed clothespins made  with washi tape tiny strong magnet on back. I also make the "skinny" note pads.
A couple more close-up photos:

I also tried some designs for Christmas corsages w/vintage items I have collected.
Heidi gave me some great ideas!
She has a flair for décor!!!!!

We will probably do it again next year.

(And just a note to end on: If you have a Square reader for accepting credit cards, that can be really helpful!
After all, who wants to lose a sale after all your hard work?!
Not me.)

Roses in Winter

Good morning. Tina here. Lately here in the gold country we have had a lot of rain. The rain was so heavy it even had a special name, an atmospheric river. So we have been inside a lot.

However, out in the yard, a California phenomenon was taking place. Here in the midst of changeable days, wet and windy (up to 50 mile-an-hour winds), can't see past the hood of the car foggy, crispy frosty frozen fields, sudden flurries of snow, and "are we in a house or on the deck of a ship?" pounding sideways rain, some of our roses are determinedly blooming away

The bush of golden yellow climbers has two blooms.

My Joseph's Dream Coat rose below the front porch sparkles in the early dawn.

Another lovely climber is preparing to join its friends, a red rose in time for Valentine's Day?

As I sit in the living room this morning, looking out at the dreary weather, noting the rain has started up again, I think of the mid-winter roses and they bring a smile.

Just For Fun

One of my grandsons was here yesterday for a little while, and he brought something for us to play with.
Colorful foam sheets and letters, shapes, etc., with adhesive backing.
I made this one:
And he made three!
This one has his initials on it:
 M is for Monkey:
And this one, I'm assuming was a tribute to his pet rat who got hurt when she jumped too far (there IS a reason why keeping them in their cage is probably a good idea) , and did not recover from her injury - though she did hang in there for a while:
And I put this last piece (below) together, but I didn't attach the letters and the stars to the backing; I merely made the assemblage and then removed them after I had snapped a photo of it:
I liked it - but the stars are precious to him (understandably, since they are so glittery and pretty!) - so I didn't want to actually use so many of them to make a picture!
Like I said, just for fun!

A Visit With Old Friends - And I Really DO Love Lemon

I had the pleasure of being invited to stay with some very dear old friends a couple of weeks before Christmas. Marcia and I have been friends since kindergarten, and I'm also very close to her sister Kim. Their mom now lives with Kim and her husband, just down the hill from Marcia.
We had such a wonderful visit, and they treated me to lunch and dinner out in Placerville on Main Street, and a delicious dinner at home, as well, while I was there.
I wish I had a photo of us together, but it seems I can NEVER remember to take pictures!
 (Too busy talking, I think....)
Kim brought out cookies for dessert one evening.
She had lots of them in the freezer!
Some she had made, and other varieties, also, from a cookie exchange party.
They were ALL good, but my favorites were some lemon cookies she had made herself.
They were SO good that I simply HAD to ask her for her recipe, and she happily obliged.
( She's like that - the entire family is. The most wonderful people you could ever hope to meet. I adore them.)
I'm sharing the recipe with you today, too:
The recipe is from "Real Simple" Magazine:
As it so happens,we were given a huge twenty pound bag of Meyer lemons for Christmas.
We have lemons coming out of our ears, and that's just fine with me.
Because - as I state in the title of my post - I really DO love lemon!
I'm juicing them and freezing the juice, and I can't think of anything I'd rather make room for in my freezer.
It took me a while to get around to it, but I finally had time to make some of the cookies this week:
 Yum.
Another thing I enjoyed at Kim's was having a nice hot cup of tea.
She had a number of teas to choose from, as well.
Guess which one I chose?
Bigelow "I Love Lemon" Herbal Tea:
And then, I had to try and find THAT, too, so I could enjoy it at home.
Our Safeway store doesn't carry it, but my husband found it for me at PriceCo here in Sonora, and it was on sale!
So, if you're in the neighborhood, and you want to stop by for a "cuppa", I've got lots of tea, and cookies, and lemons.
 If you like lemon.
Or if you LOVE lemon.
Like I do.
Cheers!

January - A New Year, And a New Illustration

Happy New Year, everyone!
I wanted to be sure and share my January illustration with you.
From my thrift store book, "The Year Around Book", written by
Helen Jill Fletcher  and illustrated by the illustrious Jerry Pinkney.
"January is the first month of the year.
We celebrate New Year's Day January 1.
We have parties.
We wear fancy hats.
We blow horns and whistles."
I didn't do any fancy hats, parties, or horns and whistles - we were in bed before midnight!
We still welcome and celebrate the arrival of the New Year, though!
Just in a quieter way, I suppose.
:)
