I am one of Betty Schaffner's daughters, but I don't recall her by name. Surely we knew each other! Would love to catch up. Feel free to share my email address: deborah at dougstevenson.com Thanks. Betty died in 1972, and after Price Stern Sloan/Penguin Books stopped printing her books, the rights reverted to me and my brother, sisters and I decided to put the designs on the internet, copyright free for personal, not for profit use. Loved her front door. I still drive by the house at least once a week, since I live and work in the neighborhood. I was a budding artist and we admired each other's work. She was a very nice lady; a nurse by profession. My Dad drove me over to her house, so that we could talk and share our artwork. Betty had cancer at the time, and the drugs for pain actually helped her art. Along with the paint she used to make some of her original works. The fumes could knock you over. They now sell used, online, for upwards of $50. I remember driving my the Schaffner home and seeing the metal garbage cans, which were painted in Betty's beautiful designs.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1172620894432077557.post-74413032997938551062010-03-05T06:42:14.838-08:002010-03-05T06:42:14.838-08:00I used to love doing those books also.
