I love this silly little song, so I thought I'd share it today with the cover of the sheet music - one in my huge collection of Bing Crosby pieces.
And the lyrics:
I know a ditty nutty as a fruitcake,
Goofy as a goon and silly as a loon.
Some call it pretty, others call it crazy
but they all sing this tune:
Mairzy Doats and Dozy Doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?
Yes! Mairzy Doats and Dozy Doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?
If the words sound queer, and funny to your ear,
a little bit jumbled and jivey,
Sing "Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy"
Oh! Mairzy Doats and Dozy Doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you -oo?
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?
Now, how cute is that music cover - with a mare, a doe, and a little lamb eating ivy, too? And Bing, of course!
And, just because I feel like it, here are a few more cute little lambs, from the adorable vintage cards I love so much.
I mean, come on - total cuteness!
I bet Bo Peep loves that song too. I just ordered the Mad Men Season 1 DVD because you said you like it so much. Love T
ReplyDeleteAWW! My Mom taught me that song, and I've taught it to my kids too. (who don't eat ivy, by the way).
ReplyDeleteTotal! We love old cards too! Have a wonderful weekend! Twyla
ReplyDeleteMy Grandma used to sing that song to me when I was little, and I just loved it. Those cards are so cute! I'm amassing quite a large collection of vintage greeting cards myself.
ReplyDeleteEeek! My mom taught me that song and I taught the chorus to my boys. Alos, in my family, when we're cold, we'll sometimes say, "Brrrrsy Doats! ;> don't know how we came up with that...
ReplyDeleteWell, you gotta know I love those cards. LAMBS!
