We took a trip down to Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown last weekend. Sierra No. 2 was running passenger trains:
Railtown is one of my husband's favorite places. He wanted to pick up this book at the gift shop:
And I guess we "played tourist" a bit, because we both got t-shirts, as well. Mine has the Harvey Girls on it!
And his has Sierra No. 3, and the famous water tower that has appeared on screen in numerous movies and television programs.
Perhaps you recall the girls in the water tower from the opening credits on Petticoat Junction?
I even remember the theme song. How could you forget it? "Petticoooaat Junction! Whoo whoo!"
I jumped in my seat when I saw this post. My husband and I just visited Railtown in July, we loved it. I was very disappointed to find that the passenger train wasn't running when we were there. I am dying to ride in that luxury car with all the stained glass.
ReplyDeleteThe movie stuff was fascinating.
I haven't blogged about it yet because I took too many pictures and I can't make up my mind.
i am glad they had harvey girls T shirts - perfect for you. didn't back to the futre 3 film there too? i know a lot of the production company stayed at poker flat during the filming. they thought john and i lived in heaven. which at the time we did. we had our pontoon and spent a lot of time on the water. but after all that i have never been there! whats up with that??!!
ReplyDeleteI need to go to Railtown. We haven't been since the boys were little. And I too loved Petticoat Junction!
ReplyDeleteNow your talking my language. Being an absolute RailFan-atic.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great place and just a wonderful way to spend a day. I took my 3 boys there many, many years ago.
They used the trains in one of my all-time favorite westerns.. High Noon with Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly.
Fantastic post. Appreciated as always, Richard.
'Briscoe County Jr.' filmed the train too. I loved that TV show! The star is now on USA on Burn Notice. I need to get to Railtown again. Love your Tshirts. I want one of each. Great post. Love T
ReplyDeleteRichard- I'm so glad you liked it! My husband is a true RailFan-atic, just like you! I'm sure you saw the post I did about High Noon? When my husband was a little boy, his mom took him to Columbia when they were filming, and he even got Grace Kelly's autograph! Unfortunately, we don't think it was saved over the years.
ReplyDeleteLove that place too.A buddy of mine has been working there for several years for the State Park Service,so I've been able to see some really cool stuff not open to the public.Next time you go,especially if your husband is a big railfan, ask about a cab ride, not necessarily advertised but available, and a real blast.
