I miss my clothesline. And I feel like whining about it, okay? This vintage clothesline with it's pretty little wood painted clothespins just won't do for me.
And this one is meant for play. I don't wanna play. I want my clothesline; I want a big girl clothesline!
In this photo, you see the clothesline that was in the backyard of our home- right outside the laundry room back door (circa 1947):
Here you see it in all it's glory - in happier days. When my friend Kari came to visit with her boys (Andy on the left, and Justin), I didn't have anything for them to play with so they made their own fun with paper napkins and clothespins!
And this photo, taken some 60 years after the black and white above shows the infamous Fallen Branch Fiasco of 2007 that took it out - totally and forever. Waaahhhhh....
Here is one that I found in an old catalog from Vermont Country Store. I found it in their online catalog, too.
I want it.
I really do hope that we can replace ours eventually. I'm ready with lots of clothespins: small and large, old and new, pretty and practical:
And my sweet vintage clothespin "dresses" to keep them in:
Whine over.
i have that 'umbrella' rotating clothesline heidi!!! all i am missing is a clothespin bag......i really need and want one and your post is making me ask why i haven't done anything about it.
ReplyDeleteI loved your post. I want one too, but after 11 years here I guess I am not getting one. I want the kind we had in the first house we lived in when we moved to Placerville. You can stand at the back steps and put the clothes on, and the rope is on a round pully thingy and you move the clothes out as you go. I have the two round pully thingies! I just need someone to put it up for me. Love T
ReplyDeleteI enjoy a clotheslines UNLESS I HAVE to use it. I guess that's my human nature rearing its ugly head. If the dryer is broken and it's my only choice then I would whine about the dryer being broken! :) Otherwise, I think a clothesline with towels and sheets and pretty clothes is a thing of beauty...life's art. (Love my dryer, though.) Can you feel my ambivalence here?
ReplyDeleteI love old movies that have scenes with clothes lines going across from building to building.Like Melony said above "life's art".
ReplyDeleteI have always lived in snow country so I never had one.
And whine thoroughly enjoyed!
