I was so saddened to hear on the news last night that Fess Parker had passed away. These books are from my collection. By all accounts, he was a really wonderful man. I miss him already.
I hadn't heard. I always enjoyed Davy Crockett and wanted a coonskin cap even though I was "only a girl". I love the way the first two books show his cabin in the background. An adventuresome man but always with a home to come back to. Love T
"Davy.., Davy Crockett; King of the Wild Frontier."
I watch him on TV when I was just a little girl, always wishing I could live that kind of life. When I went to Disneyland in the 50's, for the first time I bought a coonskin hat just like Davy. Davy Crockett was the epitome of the Frontiersman. He was tall, sure of himself, good looking and doing the right thing. From what I've seen in the news interviews Fess Parker was this way in real life too. How nice to know that some "stars" have long lasting, faithful marriages and happen to be really good guys. He live a good life and his character inspired millions.
What a lovely tribute. Last week my husband and I were in Tennesse and I saw a sign for a Davy Crockett attraction and I had mentioned to my husband how much I loved that show and course we had to try and remember the theme song and after a pretty good try, my husband asked if Fess Parker was still with us and I answered I'm not sure. This was certainly a sad way to find out.

ReplyDeleteWe have lost a very special person.
ReplyDeletethey showed a couple of old interviews with him last night and it was so refreshing compared to the so-called 'celebs' of today.
