Looks to me like when the men are in charge of the barbecue, the lady of the house need only to make a salad. That's how they did it in Dennis Day's back yard:
And here, as long as there's plenty of beer on ice - a nice big salad rounds out the meal nicely:
Mom, in her pretty skirt and peasant blouse, contributes the salad on this patio, too. (Her waist looks so tiny, I think she eats ONLY salad!)
And the little lady brings the salad out.....
Enjoy a balanced meal tonight - and with any luck at all, you'll only have to make a salad!
I'm not that little but I can make a mean salad! Looks like the little girls in photos 3 and 4 have the same dress on. Cute post. Love T
ReplyDeleteMy Mom actually did most of the BBQ'ing when we were young but now, I have a husband who does it....often, and I only have to make the salad. Works for me.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures.
i love a good - big - salad. it really is one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteI just love the way they used to portray the ideal family. It has finally cooled off enough her that we can think about BBQ-ing again. 88 degrees and low humidity, woo, hoo! Salad sounds good! Have a nice day! Twyla
ReplyDeleteLove this post, Heidi!
ReplyDeleteI'm always drawn to vintage imagery, but I especially enjoy the ones that depict such an idealistic lifestyle. Then, again... I guess they sort of ALL do, huh? Well, anyway. You know what I mean. ;)
Great Summery fun, too!
This type of 'happening' still exists I'm not ashamed to admit.
ReplyDeleteI do the grilling on Friday and Sunday night, and my beautiful wife can add on a salad or whatever inspires her to complement the main dish (grilled beef/steak/chicken).
My 6 children and one spoiled grandchild (when present) seem to enjoy it almost as much as I. What a great time to spend with my family!
Thanks for your always interesting blog.
God Bless!
