Dinah Shore was one of those entertainers who genuinely seemed to be a truly nice person who was beautiful inside and out. I found some pictures of her in my magazines, and felt like sharing them today. An ad from 1941:
1958:
Another from '58 - gorgeous:
From 1962, for S&W Green Stamps:
'62, and lovely, too:
And a piece of my sheet music:
A beautiful lady, who also had a beautiful voice.
Hi Heidi! I grew up watching Dinah. I used to watch her show every day. She was an inspiring woman. Twyla
ReplyDeleteWow, and she was married to George Montgomery. What a lovely lady. Love T
ReplyDeleteMy mother used to say Dinah had a beautiful singing voice. I recall hearing her sing on her show back when she was dating Burt Reynolds and I was shocked because she sounded awful to me. I remember I was watching her show one day and there was a breakin by the network to announce the death of Elvis Presley.
ReplyDeleteShe was such a doll, and I think like you said, was probably one of the really nice people in Hollywood. At least she seemed to be. She had a great variety show from 1956 to I think around 1962(?) & we watched it religiously. She was actually a very good singer in the style of the 40's & 50's. I also think she was the one true love of Burt Reynolds life. Gosh, now I'm going to have to go surfing around to see if I can find any of her recordings or maybe a clip of the "Chevy Show"...Seeee the USA in your Chevrolet - America's the greatest land of all. Yep, that was Dinah's song & I'm SO glad y'all can't hear me singing it! Haha!
ReplyDeleteBoy did this bring back memories. Candice comments that she remembered her voice as awful but I remember watching her show and thinking her voice was so average yet she sang with so much confidence that you sorta dug it. She exuded such comfort in her own skin, that you couldn't help but love her. Almost a Maude kind of easiness. Makes me want to find old clips of her show.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking me back!
Dawn
In case you didn't know, the connection between Dinah and Chevrolet wasn't simply commercial.
ReplyDeleteAs a teenager, Fanny Rose Shore bopped around Nashville in a Chevy roadster, so she was proud to endorse the product.
Interestingly enough, she didn't want to introduce the guests on her show. In a 1960 TV GUIDE article, she states her dislike of being a "fem-cee".
