As promised, I am finally showing you the place where I now work.
It's the historic City Hotel in Columbia, California, which is a State Park.
I work at the front desk:
We have a saloon, and a great restaurant:
And ten hotel rooms upstairs that are decorated in period style. The two you see pictured below are the balcony rooms, with balcony access at the front of the hotel overlooking Main Street:
And this is a view of the upstairs parlor:
I have been there nearly a month now. It felt kind of sad to give my notice at JoAnn's, but I was offered about four times the hours, so it was an offer I couldn't refuse. I'm still learning the ropes, but I am enjoying working in Columbia - it's one of my favorite places.
Well now I'm thinking this may be what one would call a DREAM job! To be in the heart of such California history (and beauty) is definitely enviable. Have you encountered any of the *spirits* yet?! I DO believe there are spirits lingering in our places-gone-by. I've felt them in our 100+ year old building in old Folsom and it has been a strange & very special experience. Wayda go Heidi Ann! Now I have yet another reason to get myself up there for a visit!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. Now I want to come and stay there sometime. That would be fun. Love T
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new job!! I love Columbia! I have some fun memories that were made there. I've always loved the candy store. The hand made candy canes at Christmas time are so cool!! We use to get candy that looked like peas and carrots too! I love Columbia Nursery too. I try to check it out whenever I visit my parents in Sonora.
ReplyDeleteDo you dress in period costume there at the hotel? That would be kind of cool!
Hugs,
Jill
What a charming place to work. I bet you meet some interesting people there.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! and Whoa that bed is MASSIVE, must have belonged to someone wealthy!
ReplyDeleteSo exciting! Now I have to go back to Columbia. My hubby and I visited a few years ago and we had such a great time. When we were there the City Hotel was closed and possibly for good, we were told, due to code issues. The whole town was also afraid of the possibility of Columbia closing due to State budget cuts. I am so happy to see all is well there.I think I need to stay at the City Hotel.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! Lucky you. I haven't been to Columbia in years. I will have to come visit.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job and you get to wear all those super clothes.. HAVE FUN!!
