Remembering Davy - "I Wanna Be Free"

This song was actually the very first memory that popped into my head when I heard on Wednesday that Davy Jones had died. I could picture the clip of him singing it on the show. We watched The Monkees - I was only nine years old when the show made it's debut, but I know Lori and I watched it and loved it, and loved the music. And who can forget Davy's appearance on "The Brady Bunch"?
Goodbye, Mr. Jones - I can honestly say that I will always remember you fondly.

  1. You may not remember, but your oldest teenage sister was there with you watching too. Very sad to lose Davy, he was always the cute one. Love T

  2. My sisters and I loved the Monkees too. Oldest sister Anne would cry listening to Davy sing "I Wanna Be Free" and Alice and I would laugh at her. I was jealous of Marcia Brady when she kissed him on the cheek. The Monkees came to Phoenix in 1967 and we saw the Monkeemobile driving down the street near our home.

  4. He was an awfully cute boy. I remember reading in "16" or "Tiger Beat" about a girl who was hit by a car right after attending a Monkee concert; she ended up losing a leg, the story said.

Davy came over to the hospital to see her, brought her a stuffed toy, and gave her a kiss. "'And it was right on the mouth,' beams spunky Rhonda."
