June is Popping Out All Over

A couple of months ago a little lizard came to visit while I was planting in pots on my porch.  I haven't seen him up here since, but I think I saw a glimpse of him at the foot of the steps the other day.
My begonias are growing by leaps and bounds.  They have been enjoying our spring's mad dashes from violent rainstorms to 90 degree days and back to rousing thunderstorms.
The little burgundy leaves and the tiny hot pink flowers just glow in the mid-year sun.

Maybe the lizard checks on them at night when the cats are cuddled up in the bedroom fast asleep dreaming of gophers and other delights.
In my hanging pots the seeds I planted have come up for air as miniature leaves. Above are the nasturtiums.
No blooms yet, but hope springs eternal, as they say.
The sweet peas have sent out curious little curly runners that find their way to the chains and help them climb.  Better views up there?  The morning glories are just rising up with their first set of leaves, they reach their glory in August, they are slow starters but will steal the show one day.
The petunias are starting to bloom with abandon, and every morning and evening I am out there pinching off the tired blossoms, sticky scent adhering to my nails as I go along, tossing the spent blooms down into the roses below.
Friends gathered here last Sunday for a friend's birthday dinner and to ooooh and aaaah over the view and the flowers and the incredibly lovely day the gold country sent our way.
Every other day I drag the hose from around the south side of the house and water the hanging pots.  They can dry out quickly when the temperature climbs into the 80s and 90s.
What a joy to sit and watch the sunset through the flowers.
All that intense labor (LOL) is worth it when you can kick back and smell the flowers.

Enjoy your day!
