Good morning. Tina here.
In May I wrote about the Pollock Pines May Day celebration and the maypole.
There were other activities going on as well.
There was a queen and her court (which I was part of).
This is Mary Kay. She is one of our past El Dorado Roses, and she is very elegant, especially this May Day dressed in her violets and gloves and bonnet.
She was here to teach the little girls to curtsey, (Note: Spellcheck does not like my spelling of curtsey. It would like me to leave out the "e". I prefer the old fashioned spelling)
This was a very serious classroom. There is apparently a lot to a courtly curtsey. (Another old fashioned spelling is actually courtsey.)
These little girls were concentrating very hard because they wanted to get it right.
"Put your little foot, put your little foot, put your little foot right there."
Slightly dip, nod your head in deference.
"By George she's got it! I think she's got it!"
Oh yes, they've all got it! Once they were declared ready, they got approval to meet the queen.
A little bit more practice, before the approach.
They came up and so solemnly and reverently performed their tribute.
Not a single smile escaped.
Well maybe a bit of a smile, as they realized the curtsey wasn't so hard after all.
This little one had her sister alongside to help.
All done? Nope, looks like one more girl is coming to find a teacher, Mary Kay, don't leave yet!
The queen is very, very pleased.
Good job Mary Kay!
The little girls in their tutus are so cute, and Mary Kay is quite elegant!
