Felt Christmas Stockings

I wrote last year about these special stockings Mother made for us when we were little. I love mine so much. Every year it delights me anew when I hang it at the fireplace.
I managed to win one vintage stocking pattern on ebay:
I also have been collecting bits and pieces over the last few years to, hopefully, someday make some myself, and also stockings old or new as examples to perhaps take some ideas from:
I see other patterns for auction sometimes that I would also love to have one day:
I pick up any little trims that I see, if the price is right:
Another pattern I'd like to find:
I can't remember where I found the stocking below. Sorry I couldn't fit the whole thing on the scanner. The top has a white felt cuff similar to the one in the pattern above, complete with jingle bells as trim:
And last year, after Christmas, I picked up one of these stocking kits from Martha Stewart's craft line at Michael's. I think it was more than 50% off:
I also found some nice wool felt placemats in a pretty "foresty" green (set of 8) for 25c apiece at a thrift store recently. So, one of these days, I'm going to try (with my very limited sewing abilities) to create something with all of my various supplies. Maybe small stockings to use as gift card holders or ornaments - better to start small, I think, in my case!

  3. This is just what I have been looking for!!
My Mom has a felt stocking that my grandma made for her. It is like the ones that you have shown.
I have wanted to make them for my children, but needed more ideas! Now, you've got me thinking!!
    Thanks!

  4. Did you know that Lori has an old magazine of Christmas crafts that has the pattern that looks just like our stockings? I need to "remake" mine someday. It was red with white top. I think Lori's is red also. I need to find the little deer, kids sledding, etc. sequins to make it look like the one that the mice ate. Bad mice. They had a very pretty nest though! Love T
