But The Fire Is So Delightful

Even if the weather outside isn't frightful, it IS cold. So, go ahead, you choose any one of these delightful settings (all from Better Homes and Gardens magazines, by the way) like maybe this one from 1967?
from 1969:

1968:
or 1965?
Like I said - you choose - and I'll be right there sitting by that fire with you.
They all look pretty inviting to me!
Anybody have a time machine handy?

  1. I will take 1968, but I need you and Lori there with me making those shortbread cookie thingies you used to make, and maybe I will take some really good dark roast coffee beans just ground back with me (so I don't have to drink Folger's or something) and then I am all set. Good idea, can't wait. Love T

  2. I would like to sit by the fire and read a really good book. I would be having a nice hot chocolate with some peppermint schnapps in it and homemade marshmallows!! Yum!!

  3. Hey Tina, watch what you say about the Folgers. She's pretty sensitive about her coffee. Oh boy, those pictures are fantastic. I love the artwork on the back wall of the first photo. The one with the guitars. And the furniture I would LOVE to have. Especially the chair. I would die to have a rug like that also (except in different colors). Thanks for that great post. Oh and Lorlore, I have been wanting to make homemade marshmallows. Have you ever made them? I have never tried.

  4. i like 68 and 69. i gave up coffee (*sob*) a while back but fresh ground was always my top choice. as for homemade marshmallows - they are supposed to be pretty easy - or at least easier than imagined. we were given some homemade marshmallows last year and now i know why they became popular enough to mass produce (and not be quite so great in some cases). homemade marshmallows are fantatstic - we received 'regular' and chocolate ones! YUM....

  5. Oooh, Heidi, it's much too hard picking just one... I like several elements about each room!

For instance, the sofa in that first living room, circa 1967, is quite groovy and I'd love to lounge about on it. However, I do NOT like the look of that red tile hearth clashing with the natural rock on the fireplace. :(

Now, the fireplace in room #2, circa 1969, is absolutely beautiful! I love the rugged, natural look of the rock and the thick wood mantle. The oversized opening is great, too. Can't NOT mention the pretty candle grouping or that awesome hanging wreath...

The gourmet kitchen, circa 1968, looks VERY cozy. But, since I don't cook or bake, it would sort of be wasted on me.

Lastly, the sunken living room, circa 1965, isn't really appealing to me from a decorative point-of-view. But I HAVE ALWAYS loved sunken rooms, or portions of rooms! I'm not real sure why, exactly. Maybe it somehow gave me a sense of security, like hunkering down in a trench, or something. Whatever the case, sunken rooms have always seemed aesthetically pleasing at the very least! Plus, they're just a lot cozier because they sort of envelop you. :)

    There, now I'm done!
Did you like my essay on your four 'Delightful Settings'?

  6. Yes, Anthony - I loved your essay! And there are things i like about each one, as well. I'm finding that to be true in all kinds of decor from different eras lately. I just like so darned many different styles!

  7. Let's see that's a hard one because I love that era. I think the kitchen from '68 is my favorite though. It is 10 degrees here today so I could really appreciate that roaring fire! Twyla
