A Handsome Young Man

How many of you recognize the face of this handsome young man?? Don't look below the picture yet - take a guess.
This is a 1959 magazine advertisement for the new "Eldorado Sportable" portable TV from RCA Victor. If you guessed John Davidson, you're right! This must have been one of his very first jobs. I have always really liked him. I remember him from the Kraft Summer Music Hall. For some reason, the song I most associate with him from that time is "More". Love it. I don't have the sheet music, so here's a different one:
"I'll Try Lovin' You Less":
And here with Lesley Ann Warren in Disney's The Happiest Millionaire. I absolutely LOVE this scene in which they dance and sing "Are We Dancing", written by the fabulous Sherman Brothers! He has done many things over the years - remember "The Girl With Something Extra" with Sally Field? And I really enjoyed him as the host on Hollywood Squares, too. Best of all, we actually got to see him perform in person at the Music Circus in Sacramento as Professor Harold Hill in The Music Man! He was GREAT!

  1. Wow! I haven't thought about him for years, but I bet he would make a fantastic Harold Hill! I miss him all over again.

  2. I've always loved John Davidson. Years ago, when he was on TV, he was telling that his wife homeshooled their child. I remember thinking, "Oh, those crazy people." That thought came back to haunt me.

Thanks for the memories! I'll be thinking of his beautiful dimples all day.

  5. Thanks for reminding me of John Davidson. Oh, those beautiful eyes! When I was 12, and in love with a certain classmate, "More" was our song... well, okay, my song, he had no idea of course. I would love to see "The Girl with Something Extra" again. Leslie Ann Warren is in "In Plain Sight" now and she sure does look much the same! Great post. Love T

  6. Hey, T- I didn't remember that about "Your Song"! I just knew I really liked it! Was that classmate BD? I have been watching "In Plain Sight", too - and I am enjoying Lesley Ann Warren. I've loved her since Cinderella.

  7. Yes, it was of course BD. Who else? He dominated my life from about 12 to ???. He never had any idea. But he also never married, unlike me! And he did contact me in the mid-80s because he had seen my name on something he was working on. So at least he thought of me. I've lost contact now... The story of our life might be different if the school district hadn't split us up for high school. What a mean thing to do, now that I look back on it. We only had about 45 kids, or less - went to grammar school together for years - and then we went to different high schools and that was pretty much it. Back then 15 miles or so was a mountain. And of course no one could drive until we were 16. BD had moved away by then. Love T
