Hershey's 1934 Cookbook

Hershey's published a cookbook in 1934, and then in 1971, they revised it, updated and added recipes:
I showed you one of the pictures out of this book on February 13th (the gorgeous heart-shaped cake). Cookbooks that feature vintage items are my absolute favorites, and the photos inside of this one are great examples. The deco frame on the wall is like the ones I have collected for years. I have a similar cake pedestal in red. LOVE those plates!:
Many of you may have grown up with an old-fashioned ice cream maker like this, below. Mother used to have one of those old scoops. Great ceramic canister, more pretty plates, and my favorite: green depression glass!
More of that gorgeous green glass, and some great vintage shelf liner:
In this one, I'm loving the canisters, the scale, the pedestals:
And this one really reminds me of Sierra Nevada House, the old-fashioned ice cream parlor in Coloma where we three sisters all worked years ago. In fact, if you click on that link, you will see one of those very same ice cream advertising trays in a picture on that post!:
I will have more in upcoming posts featuring other books that have great kitchenware in the photos.
The photographer for this great little Hershey's book was Al Gommi, art director Gerard Nook, and editor Josh Gaspero.

  2. Yum, chocolate pudding. My friend Cindy gave me an old children's cookbook recently that I didn't have. It is so cute. You will love it. I think I have 4 or 5 different old kid's cookbooks now. Love T

  3. How fortunate for you to have this wonderful cookbook... Loved seeing the vintage photos... I'd like to get my hands on one of those vintage drinking straw dispensers... one day I'll get lucky! On our last Thrifting adventure, my husband found about a dozen of those vintage paperback cookbooklettes, most of them from the 1940's, and filled with awesome images... we came home with all of them! One day we really need to count, and find out just how many cookbooks we actually have... I hope you've been doing well... and, I really like your new Banner!

  4. I've been spending some time catching up on your blog. I've had the crud and haven't been on the computer much. What great pictures. I love the red hutch and all the lovely colors of dishes. So much to see and what a great day of thrifting you had!
