Dr. Seuss And Read Across America

Happy Birthday to Theodore Geisel! And I don't have thanks enough to give for all of the enjoyment his work has brought, and will continue to bring to every child and adult. He was fabulous and unique.
The NEA's Read Across America is such a wonderful program to honor his memory!
I have such fond memories of being read to as a child. I believe our mother's love of the written word helped instill in all of us our love of books and reading. When I grew up, I purchased my own copy of many of the very same books we had borrowed from the library.
I have been able to find a few Dr. Seuss books over the years:
I hope to find more - but I'm being kind of picky about which copies I want:
I don't have first editions or anything, but I do like these nice, older Book Club Editions:
His books ( and even the animated versions) will live forever - aren't we lucky that's so?

  2. I love to read and I also love Dr. Seuss. Horton Hears a Who is my personal favorite. When I was very young there was a summer reading program at the library in the old Fox house and we got little stars on the chart for the books we read. The chart was set up by the fireplace in the children's area. It was a lot of fun to see the stars add up over the summer. There was a little girl in the program who I later went all through high school with. Love T

  3. Oh, I loved that old library SO much! I remember the children's room, and how books were all over throughout the whole, neat old house. I wish I could have a dream and be back there again.

  4. My little grand baby is just getting to an age where she wants to hear the story instead of just look at pictures. I love to read to her and look forward to many years of Dr. Suess!

  5. Love Dr. Seuss so much! Although, I have to admit I hated to read "Fox in Sox." My sons both loved it and they wanted me to read it over and over - very tiring!

  7. Such a nice tribute to Dr. Seuss... Indeed, he was an amazing man and left countless memories for me to treasure and hopefully new memories for children who have yet to discover his magical world... my sweet Mom read to us, alot, too, and I'm forever thankful for her doing so... every now 'n then I make the guys sit long enough to listen to me read a snippet from some of the old books I have... it's actually nice to do, because then they ask about my childhood and their Grandparents... before long, we are lost in precious memories... I always give a book as a gift for a child... better than a stuffed animal any day!
