Some Of Our Old 45's - Part 2

As promised in part one, some picture sleeves this time. The first three are from my husband's collection. First up - The Beach Boys:
The Monkees. Now, I watched and loved The Monkees on TV, but I don't think he did - he liked the song because it was about a train!
Bob Dylan:
We actually each have a copy of this one from Creedence Clearwater Revival!
And these last two were mine - Elvis:
And The Carpenters:
If you happen to be anywhere near our age range, I hope you have enjoyed this little musical stroll down memory lane! What were some of your first records?

  1. The first time I ever saw Creedence, was on the Tomorrowland stage at Disneyland. Great 45's.

  2. My first record was "Sugar Shack" and I was so proud of it, until I found out it was a "sounds like" record, not by the popular recording artist (don't remember who it was - I was only about 11 or 12). The next was probably Simon and Garfunkle. Speaking of the Tomorrowland Stage, I saw several popular groups there during the summers of 66 through 68. I had forgotten about that. Love T

  4. Yes, I'm in your age range and these are all Very familiar with me. Being a Beatles fan, I had (and still have) Beatles 45's and picture sleeves. I also have The Letter by the Box Tops. Also, Hang on Sloopy by the McCoys. These are just a few that I remember, I had a whole stack as most teenagers did. Twyla

  5. Great taste, Heidi! I'll bet the rarest one is the Dylan 45. "I Want You" is one of my all-time faves of his, and is probably the closest thing he's ever done to a "catchy, pop-type" song. The Elvis one is great, too, both sides! I like his version of "Any Day Now" even better than the excellent, later Ronnie Milsap version. Elvis' version has more of an anguished, desperate feel to it. Good stuff!

  8. I love all this music, Heidi! I'm sure you know that. Do you remember when we used to think a certain someone in "Annette's" life looked like Paul Simon? It was at the height of Simon & Garfunkel's fame, and we were silly teenagers! Those were fun days. How could you not mention American Pie? We knew every word and sang it in PE.

  9. I had that Monkees one!! I think it was my older sister's, and she gave it to me. I always thought it looked like the boys were standing on the steps leading up to the Matterhorn ride at Disneyland!

  10. Deb - the only reason "American Pie" wasn't included is because it's not an "old 45" that I have had since back in the day. I still LOVE LOVE LOVE that song - and, might I add- I DO own it on a 45 now- but I got that within the last 5 years or so! Better late than never, right? "A long, long, time ago -I can still remember how that music used to make me smile..."
