Make Some Old-Fashioned Valentine Cards With A Kit

Who remembers making Valentine cards when we were kids?
I do.
And I think I may even have one or two around here someplace that I made!

 Does anyone do that anymore?

 Well, I was hoping somebody might want to when I put together these kits.

 My kits include stickers, paper, envelopes, heart doilies, Victoriana-style postcards, and a few color copies of vintage Valentines, plus a couple of tiny original vintage unused Valentines
and some vintage, unused Love postage stamps.

 Each kit varies just a little.

 Pink and red and white paper, and lacy heart-shaped paper doilies in a variety of sizes.......

They are available in my Etsy shop Cool Paisley Cat, and if you purchase one and let me know that you found it through my blog, I will throw in one of these vintage mechanical Valentine cards with your kit.

My Ever-Lovin' Heart Wishes Yours A Happy Valentine's Day

Oh, my - February really IS already half-way through, and I have, once again, forgotten (until now) to share with you my February page from "The Year Around Book"!

Lastly, we have the pages from one of my Baker's Coconut  "Cut-Up Cakes" books, also featuring a heart cake for February:

 I have three different versions of the Baker's Coconut cake books, and these pages are from my oldest one, dated 1956.
I  also wrote a post three years ago with another version of the heart cakes. You can click here to go back and read that one.
 Make it a "really scrumptious Valentine" by sprinkling lacy white Angel Flake Coconut over the top and adding red cinnamon candies:

Sweet Things For Valentine's Day

I found an adorable vintage tin tray (which I assume was part of a children's tea set) at a thrift store:

I'm pretty sure he is getting ready to steal those tarts from the Queen Of Hearts....
.. you know, like in the old Mother Goose nursery rhyme?

 And these are sweet things - our Valentine cards along with a box of See's Candies - only my favorites chocolates EVER:

I also found a lovely ceramic cameo heart vase to add to my Valentine's Day decor:

It was sitting on the counter, just like you see here with a little bouquet of narcissus, at one of my favorite thrift stores.
 I had already paid, and then I asked if it was for sale, by any chance?
She said yes, and would I like the flowers, too?
Definitely!
And certainly well worth the one dollar I paid to have their sweet scent (which happens to be one of my favorites in the entire world!) in my house for days!

I Framed It: A Valentine Cover From 1927

I love the artwork by Hazel Frazee on the cover of "Child Life The Children's Own Magazine" from February of 1927:

I got lucky, and I managed to find a pink frame at a thrift store that actually worked very well for this print.

Which cake will you take?
The one on the left - or the one on the right - from this sweet little baker boy?
Which ever one you choose, I'm sure it will be right on "target".
So cute!

Valentines of 1916, A Hundred Years of Love

Good morning, Tina here.

I am wishing everyone a happy Valentine's Day by sharing some postcards which are all from one hundred years ago, 1916.

This little maid has a heart shaped dress and hat. I think she is waiting on the shore, for...

This little guy setting his heart-shaped boat a-sail, dressed in his best checked sailor suit.

In case the boat doesn't work out, our guy above can aim to be her love's target.

Meanwhile another maid goes fishing on the side of the pond for her love. Good luck to them all!

Another water-based love message, and a marriage proposal contained in a postcard! I wonder how that worked out?

Even a hundred years later, hearts, cupids, flowers, are all still popular themes for valentines.

I am ending with a pretty lass who reminds me of Nancy Drew, although this could be Nancy's mother, since Nancy Drew didn't come into being until 1930.

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day, and may your love last at least a hundred years!

My Funny Valentines
