Well, it is still August, and it's still HOT - so today Penny is wearing a vintage SUN dress by Alex Colman:
Bright and pretty in SUNny yellow, it belonged to my mother-in-law:

Penny says she's always cool. I think I know what she means.

Pretty Stitchery

So much work goes into this stitchery! Look at this lovely floral embroidered work of art. It was designed by Elizabeth Bauman for Better Homes and Gardens in 1969:

More About Annette

Again - just because I love her so much, I felt like posting - even if it's just to show you this adorable photo of her at her vanity table:

Of course, I had to have her autobiography. Did you see the TV movie that was made, based on her story? I thought I taped it, but I am not sure whether I saved it or not after watching. Eva LaRue played the part of Annette. When Len Cariou as Walt Disney made his first appearance - it brought tears to my eyes. I'm just that sentimental about Walt.
Does anybody else even remember that she had a perfume line? I bought this at "Mlle. Antoinette's Parfumerie" which no longer exists in Disneyland's New Orleans Square:
So, anyway - that's it - just felt like sharing. Because I know lots of you out there love her, too.

More of Dad's Old Neckties

Dad (my father-in-law) had LOTS of ties. I showed you some of them in a previous post. He had paisley ties:

Painting The House

Painting? I think this cute little gal in her overalls and kerchief had the right idea:

Apparently it was a requirement to dress alike!

Do You Remember Famolare?

Here is an unused large peel-off sticker I saved that I'm sure came in the shoebox when I bought a pair of Famolares in the 70's.
Now this first pair of sandals, pictured below, were a thrift store find recently:
And here is an original pair of my own Famolare sandals I bought way back when:
And here's my other pair. I can still wear them, and they're pretty comfortable, too.

They made shoes they called "Get There", and "Hi There"- and probably some with other names that I don't recall. I liked the "Hi Theres" - because they made me taller!
Any of you out there in my age range? Did you have any Famolare shoes? Did you keep them?

Then And Now #45 - The Osterizer Beehive Blender

We grew up with an old Osterizer blender in our kitchen. It had just the one toggle switch - on or off, those were your choices. Hey - it was good enough at the time! You could still make milkshake in it- that's probably all this little girl cared about (not that we had them often). This book was published in 1952. The little clip you see at the top right is an advertising tie clip that my father-in-law probably wore at his appliance store. It's a lenticular image - it switches between "Osterizer" and "Spins Sales With Woman's Day"- apparently a promotional arrangement with the magazine as a giveaway or something:
The one we had was like this, except it had a white base rather than the chrome:

When they first came out with their "Classic" blender, I decided that was the one I needed to have! It is so much more attractive than the other boring blenders that were available at the time.
You can still find this model for sale, and mine is still serving me well after quite a few years. And I even found an additional pitcher, a plastic one, online. So if the glass one is in the dishwasher, I have another.
Now they have a new model, The Contemporary Classic - it looks pretty great, too:

A milkshake is sounding kind of good right now. But maybe I will have a low point smoothie instead!

What's Penny Wearing? #9

Penny is wearing what I was wearing exactly 35 years ago today when I was at Disneyland! August 24th, 1974:
Complete with the very same bag I carried that day:
I wish I were at Disneyland TODAY!
But then, I always wish I was at Disneyland.

Wicker Hanging Chairs

When I was 13 years old, I wanted one of these wicker chairs to hang in my room.

Here's proof: This is an excerpt from a journal I wrote the summer before I started high school:
I never got one, but I REALLY wanted it:
That was back when I used to dream about how I would fix up my room if I had money to spend on furnishings.
We didn't have the money for new furniture in the main parts of the house, so there sure as hell wasn't any for my room!
But a girl could always dream.....
....and I did that a LOT.

The Wizard Of Oz

Like (nearly) everyone else, I love this movie! I didn't always love it, though. I remember being SO frightened by the Wicked Witch of The West that I went into my parent's bedroom to hide. Mother had to come in with the World Book Encyclopedia and attempt to explain movie special effects to me! Dorothy Gale, as played by the beloved Judy Garland:

I did grow to love it more and more as the years went by, though. Naturally, I have a piece of the original sheet music in my collection:
I bought this book about Judy's life when it came out in 1975:
And I had to have this one, too:
But it's not all about Judy - I also loved Jack Haley, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Margaret Hamilton, Billie Burke, and the Munchkins. "And Toto, too? Yes - Toto, too". This FABULOUS book was published for the 50th anniversary of the film in 1989. Oh, I just had to have it!
The rebate check that I sent away for after buying the book was so great-looking, I couldn't cash it - so I tucked it carefully away inside the book instead:
You KNOW I have the VHS - I didn't feel the need to picture that today - but I have the soundtrack CD, as well - LOVE it. When I listen to Jack Haley sing "I hear a beat....how sweet!", it melts MY heart:

And this little book I picked up at a yard sale:
Oh - and I simply cannot look at an oil can without saying "oil can" without opening my mouth. It's just a thing with me.

My Sister's 4-H Demonstrations

I would like to do a post about my own demonstrations, but I'm not sure whether I still have my old posters. If I do, I don't know where they are. If I find them, I'll let you know!
Below is a program from 4-H Demonstration Day, 1971. We didn't give Demos that day - we were coordinators working behind the scenes, along with other older members:
Lori's first demonstration was Raggedy Ann Salad:
The idea came from Betty Crocker's Cook Book For Boys and Girls ( you can see it in this post). This is a photo from that book:

Her next demonstration was Cupcake Cuties:
She showed how to simply decorate cupcake tops for seasons and holidays:


And the idea for that came from Betty Crocker's New Boys and Girls Cookbook (shown in this post):


Apparently, Betty Crocker was quite the great resource for information and inspiration back then, as the ideas for both of my demonstrations came from those books, as well!
This last tidbit is SO cool. I just got a letter from my aunt in Wisconsin yesterday. She had enclosed a letter she found that Daddy had sent to their mom on March 20th, 1967. Here is an excerpt from his letter:Now, come on- how cool is that?!
