Models From The 60's And 70's: Jean Shrimpton

Today's post is all about the absolutely gorgeous model Jean Shrimpton, who graced MANY a magazine cover, and many a layout inside.
If you are anywhere near my age, you will surely remember this fabulous face:

Stunning:

More marvelous Vogue covers:

And a cover from Ingenue Magazine:
Ladies' Home Journal, from July 1969:
And here, on the cover - and inside - an issue of McCall's Magazine, this one from April of 1965:
Now, I ask you: is it any wonder every magazine wanted her to grace it's cover?
A true beauty, in every sense of the word.

Pattern From The Past: McCall's 8678 - A Sleeveless Shift

Today's pattern is from 1967, a sleeveless dress seen below in McCall's magazine; it's number 8678.
And here's the pattern front, with that same style there on the left, in red and white - with a headband rather than a floppy white hat:

You can choose to add the low-slung belt, or not.
The back of the pattern, below.
Six versions - which one would you pick?

A Single Illustration By John Alcorn, Simply Because I Love Them

I've written before about my love for the artwork of John Alcorn (see this post). I found another of his illustrations in a Seventeen Magazine (1967) recently and just snapped a photo of it:
His unique style completely captivates me.
Just wanted to share it.

Patterns From The Past - With A Little Help From Betsy McCall

Today's edition of "Patterns From The Past" features McCall's patterns from a Betsy McCall paper doll page out of a 1959 McCall's Magazine.
Betsy McCall Makes A Rainy Day Surprise:
Her blazer and slacks are from pattern number 4728:
Perfect for riding her bike....
And here is the front of that pattern:
Betsy's flowered cotton shortie pajamas are pattern 4501:
Shortie pajamas - too cute - I remember them also being known as "baby-doll" pajamas when I was little::
Here is an outfit for Betsy featuring a pleated skirt and a top, from pattern number 4944:
And the pattern:
Pattern 4503 was the only one I couldn't find - her little play suit and shorts:
I love these old Betsy McCall paper doll pages.
Tina gave me a number of them for my birthday one year.
I used to cut them out and save them and play with them when I was a little girl.
I've written about them before; I wish I still had them all!

I Framed It: A Valentine Cover From 1927

I love the artwork by Hazel Frazee on the cover of "Child Life The Children's Own Magazine" from February of 1927:
I got lucky, and I managed to find a pink frame at a thrift store that actually worked very well for this print.
Which cake will you take?
The one on the left - or the one on the right - from this sweet little baker boy?
Which ever one you choose, I'm sure it will be right on "target".
So cute!

Some Great Notions

Sewing notions, that is!
I am loving these bright, pretty and colorful advertisements for buttons and things that I found in my vintage magazines:

I love them all!

Models From The 70's - Sunny Redmond

Today's model is the lovely red-headed Sunny Redmond.
Here she is on the cover of Seventeen in November of 1971:
And she graces the cover of this McCall's book of "Pattern Fashions" from Fall/Winter 1972, as well:
I think all of the remaining pictures are from 1972, and all are from the pages of my vintage Seventeen Magazines.
Here she is in bell bottom jeans and a red tee :
The next photo is from an ad for Butterick Patterns:
Next we have a couple of her wearing gingham:
And here, she's wearing a dress from Butterick pattern number 6602:
And, obviously, an ad for Psssssst:
More gingham - a patchwork-patterned fabric bikini top:
An advertisement for Evelyn Pearson robes:
And here she's wearing a cute dress from Butterick pattern number 6767, from an advertisement for J. P. Stevens Wool:
And the plaid shirt dress from the same wool ad is Butterick pattern 6710:
A halter top worn over a turtleneck, from an ad for Coats & Clark:
Peeking out from under a red hat in a Seventeen fashion layout:
And in an ad for Johnson's Baby Powder:
Sunny is the perfect name for her with her bright, beautiful and sunny face!

More Vintage Betsy McCall Paper Doll Fashions

Here's another sweet Betsy McCall paper doll from the 1950's.
"I wear my bright red dress when I ride on the red horse on the merry-go-round".
Cute!
"I am Betsy McCall".
And you are adorable, Betsy.
"I wear my blue-and-yellow dress when I pick blue cornflowers to put in a yellow basket".
Yes, it's always a good idea to color coordinate your outfits with whatever you will be doing that day........
And I've saved this one for last, since it is appropriate for the beginning of school this week.
"I'm saving my navy skirt with the red blouse to wear when I go ...
...back to my big red schoolhouse."
And she's even got an apple for the teacher.
I love it.

Patterns From The Past: McCall's 8497 Dress Up In This Shift And Overslip

Back in 1966, you could be "Sew in with the crowd", if you made one of these dresses for yourself!
A "see-through chiffon overslip" with a slip dress underneath.
Or wear the slip dress alone for "another swinging outfit".
"Get moving and grooving" in this dress from McCall's pattern number 8497,
done up all in white here in this advertisement for McCall's out of a 1966 Seventeen Magazine:
I don't care too much for it in white, myself.
But I think it looks stunning in black!
See the depiction here on the pattern front:
There is one available on Etsy from Deja Vu Patterns, it really IS pretty:
The back of the pattern:
Dress to impress at your next cocktail party, gala event, night at the theater, perhaps?
Or whatever type of parties people are having nowadays.
