Then And Now #31 - Aunt Jemima

Aunt Jemima Pancake Mix started it all back in 1889!
Here's an advertisement from 1938:
And from 1954:
You had three varieties to choose from in 1956:
And then check this out! Make your pancakes with bacon down the middle - I've never seen that before! (1963)

And I'll never forget the jingle from this old Aunt Jemima commercial, will you?
These days, there are MANY more choices at the supermarket, including Pancake and Waffle Mix in Original Complete, Buttermilk Complete, and Original, Lite Syrup, Butter Lite Syrup, Coffee Cake Mix and, of course - Frozen breakfast items - like this French Toast:
and a host of other frozen products!
There used to be restaurants, too, including one at my favorite place - Disneyland!
The choices we have today truly are mind-boggling.

I've never seen them bacon style either, but that looks like something I'd like to try! Twyla

Thanks, Heidi! I love Aunt Jemima, and I really enjoyed the commercial. I had forgotten it. Thanks for bringing it back!

I agree with Twyla ~ wouldn't mind sampling a bacon-pancake! I have a Vintage Aunt Jemima ad featuring Deviled Ham Pancakes... that ad copy says, "HOORAY!"... not so sure I could get that excited about a deviled ham-cake... LOL

As always, a terrific post...

I miss the old Aunt Jemima! She was sweet and fluffy! Don't like the new imposing drawing :( Bring back the good ole days! Bring back the old Aunt Jemima! And how come they don't offer the buckwheat variety any longer? I would like to try that!
