Did Wishing Make It So?

Hello there.....

I was searching for rooms in my old posts, and I came across this post from nearly four years ago titled  "A Place To Sew" . If you click on the title and go back to read it, you can see the sixth photo down in that post is the same one shown below.
Did you happen to notice what I said in the text of my post?

"I want that little lady on the shelf in the corner".
Well, fast forward a few years, and will you look what I found!
Funny thing is - I didn't even remember ever having seen her before. Really, the picture was so small. And it WAS four years ago.

And yet, here she is in all her glory. And she's mine, all mine.
So - what do you think?
Did wanting her and wishing for her make me find her? Did that bring her to me?
How ever I found her; I'm happy she's here.

Found - In A Drawer

Baby Ruth -  "Slice and Serve" - an advertisement? Yes - but it's actually a billboard that was once used alongside my husband's Lionel train set when he was a boy. From the 1950's:

Another billboard,  below, was for Atlantic, which later merged with the Richfield Oil Corporation and became the Atlantic Richfield Company, now known  as "Arco" :

Headed for Plasticville, USA? (Is that anywhere near Pleasantville?) The Plasticville line of buildings and accessories were also made to be used with model train layouts way back then. My father-in-law made a huge set-up that folds up against the wall down in the basement for his two sons all those years ago. It's pretty cool.
Get yourself some Solarex sunglasses along the way.

 Found at the same time were the other items you see below. Crayolet and Gothic crayons, and an half-full box of Akro-Agate marbles for Chinese Checkers:

I found them all inside the drawer of the little magazine table you see below. It's in pretty rough shape, which is why it has been sitting out in a corner of the garage for many years. It was turned around, and I didn't even know it had a drawer. So it made me happy when I opened it up and found some little long-lost "treasures" inside.

Now I think this little table needs some help. Nothing a little sandpaper and some paint can't fix, right? Because it is a very useful and practical table. And it's a nice size.
And it doesn't deserve to be banished to the garage corner for another 40 years!

Sweet Peas and White Lilacs - Worth Waiting For

A long while ago, at least ten years, I planted three lilacs along the driveway.  They were very tiny.  They grew over the years, and the deer feasted on them over the years, but they are finally growing and can be called "bushes" now. 

Finally this year the one in the middle bloomed, and it is white! I probably knew that years ago, but had forgotten. Another white bush planted about 14 years ago muddled along and then died, and I thought I had no white ones.

Surprise!

Happy surprise, and delicious perfume.

Last spring I filled the hanging pots on the front porch with pansies, tulip bulbs, and nasturtium, morning glory and sweet pea seeds.

One lone pot decided to surprise me with sweet peas.

They grew slowly all fall and winter. All other flowers faded away as it climbed, and then bloomed with just a few colorful delightfully scented blossoms.

I am going to try again someday, but for this spring, it is a special little surprise.

Meanwhile, Cheshire Cat is on the prowl.

He says to be sure and take the time to smell the flowers.

MORE Great Rooms From Seventeen

I found more of the cool rooms I love in another vintage issue of Seventeen magazine, so I wanted to share them with you today.
First , we have a game room, bright and fun;

A gorgeous  kitchen: that furniture is made by Stanley, by the way - the makers of my beloved "Ole" set. I had NO idea there was similar kitchen furniture. I LOVE it, too!

 A  groovy den in hot colors is seen below. As always, I scour every detail of these vintage interiors, and I always see all sorts of accessories in the rooms that I would love to own.

And last, but not least - the porch. Looks like a great place to hang out to me!

 These linens, below were featured along with the porch photo. It just happens that I have a pillow case in that design seen at top left, and I have it out on our patio as a seat cushion cover on one of my wicker chairs. I found it at a thrift store, and how funny that all these years after it was first sold, I am actually using it on my outdoor furniture - not it's intended use, obviously!

Those are some pretty sheets and towels! I seldom find vintage towels in good shape, but I pick up vintage bed linens all the time - I like them much better than most of what is available today.

Fab & Funky Finds - My Colors!

Some recent finds in the colors I am loving most these days.

What's Penny Wearing? #89 They Were Once All The Rage

Crocheted sweater vests truly were once all the rage, you know:

 I remember having a red one back in grammar school.

 I loved it and I wore it a lot.
 I picked this one up recently at a thrift store. I think it looks pretty good over the black skirt and turtleneck:

Even the lovely Ann Marie, (as played by Marlo Thomas) was sporting one back in the day on "That Girl":

(Not to change the subject or anything - but boy, did I ever have a crush on Donald Hollinger - or Ted Bessell - or, I guess  both!)

I love the channel MeTV, because they play old, great shows that I would never get to see otherwise. "Me" stands for "Memorable Entertainment" - that's for sure. They even play all of the credits at the end - without speeding them up nor miniaturizing them. Yay!

An Original: Blue Floral Beauty

I purchased this gorgeous painting at a thrift store last week.

It was marked down to one-quarter of it's original price, and I had admired it far too many times (and walked away without it) to pass it up once again.
