TV Programs for Kids 1960

Good morning, Tina here. Way back in July, 1960, I was eight years old, almost nine. My little sisters were three and five.  I can see us early morning Saturday, trying to be very quiet, settling down in front of our black and white TV to watch our choice of cartoons.

We only got channels 3, 10 and 13, and sometimes 2 and 6.

Captain Sacto, Captain Kangaroo, Brother Buzz, Howdy Doody, Heckle and Jeckle, Mighty Mouse, Crusader Rabbit... What was your choice?

I choose BOTH Captains - and a little Mighty Mouse thrown in to "save the day"!
I miss the simplicity of the old TV Guide we grew up with, when there were actually descriptions about what was on. I know we have tons of choices and channels now, and I know we have the internet at our fingertips, but I still miss it, just the same.

My, how things have changed! I was a Captain Kangaroo kid, among other shows.

Always watched The Captain. It was kind of nice to have so few choices. So simple and if nothing looked good you just went out and played!!

Crusader Rabbit. The best of all cartoons.

On the Phoenix dial we got channels 3, 5, 10 and 12. Romper Room, Captain Kangaroo, Wallace and Ladmo, cartoons, ah the good old days.
