The Brady Bunch Turns 40
Forty years ago on this date, The Brady Bunch debuted on television. Whether or not you enjoy (or enjoyed) the show, you cannot deny it's enduring popularity! I DID enjoy the show - and I happen to be the same age as Maureen McCormick, who played Marcia. She was the oldest, and I am the youngest, but still - three sisters.
You knew this was coming, right? I also bought the book:
I haven't purchased Maureen's book "Here's The Story", but I do believe I would enjoy reading it.
Look at this sweet photo of Florence Henderson, below. It's from an article in Life magazine that was published almost exactly 15 years prior to the Brady Bunch premiere. The article was about a trip she took back to visit family in Owensboro, Kentucky , before appearing on Broadway in "Fanny". She turned 75 this year, still looks fabulous, and all I can say is "Way to go, Florence!" Still going strong, still as fabulous as ever.
I loved the whole cast, and it was a fun show to watch when I was growing up.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen a rerun in years - we don't get TV Land.

I love the Brady Bunch. My husband and I are always looking at houses as we drive around and we often say "look that is a Brady Bunch house". I always wanted to live in a house like that.
our cat sadie is also a bradie (obviously a different branch on the tree of brady's)! i love the early pictures of florence henderson - i have seen several lately and they are fantastic!
I love the Brady Bunch too. Sure wish I had an Alice here at my house!!!
I, too, loved The Brady Bunch!
Coincidentally, I recently caught a rerun of one of the later episodes. It was the one about Cindy snooping in Marcia's diary, and then Marcia getting even by writing in it that a talent scout sees potential in Cindy to be Hollywood's NEW Shirley Temple. So then Cindy, of course, dresses and curls her hair just like Shirley, buys her records to learn the songs... Then the "talent scout" shows up and hilarity ensues.
Ever see that one? It's kind of sad in a way. Just how that one episode in particular seemed to push the boundary of Susan Olsen's real age the farthest. I'm pretty sure that she was 14 or 15 when they filmed it. And even before that, they had been keeping her in pig tails waaay past the age normal girls would've still been wearing them. I think that Susan resented that, and has talked about it publicly, since.
Sorry, I don't mean to be negative. I just thought all of that was interesting. Like I said, I loved The Brady Bunch! And I always will!
I think it's interesting, too. I had never heard that before, and it's been so long since I've seen any episodes that I don't remember that one. You are welcome to chime in any time about anything that's on your mind, Anthony!
Hi Anthony. I just wanted to say I thought your comment was very interesting and sad also. Tina
I loved seeing that old picture of Florence Henderson. I can't believe she is 75! Twyla
