Barbies From Christmas Catalogs

My friend Heidi let me borrow her vintage Christmas catalogs so I could scan these pages to show you. I loved seeing all of these vintage Barbies and others and all of their stuff! The first three are from Sears Wish Book Christmas 1968:

The next two are from Montgomery Ward's Christmas catalog, 1971:

And, finally, three from Ward's Christmas catalog, 1972:

I would love to hear comments from anybody who has collected or remembers getting any of these items for Christmas And - of course - as always, any other comments or memories from any of you!
Hope you enjoyed seeing them.

Oh I had so many of these (still do!) the live action PJ, the camper (of course) the blow up pool and so many of the outfits. Such a fun post!

Gee, I went the way of Breyer horses, and mostly skipped the Barbies and such!! Much to Moms chagrin, who always adored dolls.

They do look like a lot of fun, though. =)

Gosh the Wish Book had it all, didn't it?

I got the inflatable swimming pool, the Barbie Jet and the Country House. I always wanted the Barbie Townhouse with the elevator, but never did get it!

My last year to play with my Barbie was 1963. I was in the 7th grade. I was a late bloomer - my friends were not still playing with Barbies so I had to play in secret - but I wasn't that secretive. Peer pressure wasn't so very big to me. I got the Barbie Fashion Shop - I took pictures of Midge and Barbie pulling up to the fashion shop in a "not really made by Mattel" sports car that looked like the one made for Barbie. I got my first Barbie when I was in the fourth grade, I was 10. She had the silky ponytail and the black and white striped bathing suit - the sun glasses and heels. I wish you had images of all of that. I also had Ken. In the 6th grade my friends gave me the Barbie with the new bubble hairstyle. Mine was platinum. I thought she was beautiful. But I was still true to my first Barbie and loved styling her hair.

Love the camping horsy Barbie with the patchwork skirt. I was already a Mom myself by then so I never saw all the later Barbie stuff. Pretty cool. Love T

I love that little orange camper! I think I stopped playing with Barbies in the early 60's so I missed most of that stuff. Darnit!

This sure brought back memories! I loved pouring over the old Sears wishbook, and checking off all the toys I hoped Santa would bring me. I'm still hoping to find the late 60s and early 70s ones, hiding in some basement estate sale, at my price!

1968 must have been the big year in our neighborhood, because the girl next door got the car, and one of us got the hair kit (I especially remember the braid with the barette - but we played with each other's stuff so much it is hard to remember whose was whose.) I loved getting those packs of shoes ... or better yet, shoes and purses.

Oh my gosh! I had the kitchen, the steel one from 1971. I looked at that thing in every catalog every year until my parents finally got it for me. I played with it until it fell apart. I also had the Livin Lively house, which fell apart also. I loved my Barbies back then and I still love them today. Oh and my sister had the Magic Growing Hair Barbie. She didn't like Barbies nearly as much as I did but she wouldn't let me play with it :P

Thanks for posting these....love it love it LOVE IT
