My Storytime Shadowbox

I made this shadow box about thirty-five years ago. Sorry I couldn't really get a decent picture of it because of the glass front, but Lindsey's post on April 15th over at Two Crazy Crafters inspired me to post about this.

When I created it, I had to work with what I was able to find at the time, and from top left moving clockwise, I imagined them as "Let's All Sing Like The Birdies Sing", "Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail", "The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg", "Three Blind Mice", and "Tom, Tom, The Piper's Son".

The inspiration to make it came from the Christmas ones Mother had made for the three of us girls. I loved hers so much, I decided I needed to try my hand at it. She didn't mind that I stole some of her ideas. I was even able to find the same box she used. Does anybody still make these? I have never seen them anywhere. I know Michael's carries a variety of boxes, but these particular ones were unfinished and inexpensive. I also like the small size (approx. 7&1/2 by 5&1/2.)

I have been gathering shadow boxes (found on sale) with the plan to create something new one of these days. The creative, colorful and fabulous one made by Lindsey may just be the kick in the rear I needed to inspire me get started!

I love your storytime box, and I treasure my Christmas box that Mother made. I remember mine had no decoration on the back and so I placed a Christmas card with a scene that fit as a backdrop. Great post. Love T

I love your shadowboxes, especially the one with the Mama mouse in her apron! I see those boxes all the time at garage sales, so I think I'll pick one up next time. I'm picturing making each little opening a scene from one of my favorite childhood books. Thanks for the inspiration!

Heidi, I love yours! So precious! I think you should make more! I never see these kinds of shadow boxes in craft stores, but thrift stores are a good source. I'm glad Lindsey's box inspired you and so glad you shared your's! Have a nice week! Twyla
