I came across another charming print from 1967, with artwork by "Pati":
"How To Preserve Children" - it's really the sweetest thing.....
So cute!
(I showed you the other print I found, "Garnishes" back in July.)
Somebody took very good care of this vintage framed print.
To preserve children, you must:
"Take one large grassy field, one-half dozen children, three small dogs, on a long narrow strip of brook, pebbly if possible.
Mix children with dogs and empty into the field, stirring constantly.
Sprinkle with daisies and buttercups.
Cover all with a deep blue sky
and bake in warm sun for several hours.
When the children are thoroughly browned they may be removed.
They will then be found right and tender enough for setting away
to cool in a bath tub full of bubbles."
Ah, if only it were that simple.........
Pati, you do beautiful work.

A Few Recent Thrift Finds
Today, I am showing you some of my favorite finds of late.
I found a bunch of these pretty canning jar lids and seals, and I just thought it would be fun to arrange them in the shape of a Christmas tree for my photo:
This vintage bee brooch was just sitting there waiting for me in one of the display cases.
He's a cutie, and his little wings move:
I found the lovely little hobnail iridescent vase, below, at a Goodwill. I believe it's Fenton (Moonstone?).
The price tag said $1.50, and I plucked it right off their little cart as they were setting things out on the shelves.
They weren't even putting it up front in the "special vintage" section.
Mine:
And a great needlepoint and crewel-embroidered pillow cover:
I found a pretty little vintage canister in my favorite green and blue:
And a vintage Avon Lady tote bag, which was actually a yard sale find:
A vintage (with that "antiqued" vibe) No Smoking sign:
Oh, yes - and one more nice, heavy Scotch tape dispenser.
This one may not be a pretty color like my other two, but I will not pass these up. I like the idea of being able to tear off a piece of tape one-handed. These vintage ones are heavy enough that they don't move around on you. I decided to keep this one in the kitchen drawer - I don't even have to take it out of the drawer to get a piece of tape! Works for me:
I do love a nice, useful, "thrifted" item!

Running Studio Gift Cards
I have loved these small gift cards ever since Mother gave them to me going on forty years ago:
I thought they were so nice and so pretty that I saved them, and back when I had no ornaments for my tree,
I made them into ornaments.
You can see the holes where I poked a hanger through.
I am glad I still have them, with her signature inside - so very sweet:
They were silk screened, and made by Running Studio.
I was delighted to come across a lot of them on eBay a while back.
I wanted to show you each example I have - first up, a sweet little angel with a tree for you:
Brightly-colored mushrooms:
They are small gift enclosure cards, measuring just 1&1/2 by 2 inches,
and each came with it's own envelope, as you can see.
Veggies and flowers:
Aren't they pretty?
A bee, and a little belle with a bonnet......
Next, we have a lovely little candle:
And candy canes and cones for the holiday:
Here is their little logo on the back:
They are such well-made, attractive and artistic little cards; I think they are very special.

Wishing You a Wonderful Thanksgiving Day
Just popping in to wish you a wonderful turkey day!
With a little help from my friends, these two adorable Hallmark pilgrims from 1987:
I've had them for twenty-seven years , and they are always part of my Thanksgiving decor.
Hope you ALL have a bountiful day full of blessings, family, friends and love.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Gold Country Girls.

Thanksgiving Decorations
Today's post consists of snapshots of my Thanksgiving decorations.
Turkeys, turkeys, everywhere!
There might be a chicken or two thrown in for good measure:
I always change things up a little every year.
And I've got to make sure I can fit in any new (or, "new" old) turkeys I come across throughout the year when I am hitting the thrift stores.
I like to tuck my autumnal-themed vintage hankies into my turkey planters:
I found the brown one on the left, below in October:
And the honeycomb decorations you see in the next picture are new this year, as well:
I love the way they look up on top of our corner built-in hutch!
Gobble, gobble.

See's For Thanksgiving
How about some See's Candies for Thanksgiving?
Come on - why not?
They're a good idea for every holiday.
And also for every day that isn't a holiday.
I found this See's advertisement from 1977 in an issue of the Home Magazine that was a supplement to The Los Angeles Times.
"A Family Treat For Thanksgiving" - I like the sound of that:
They have some sweet chocolates (and other candies) available just for the Thanksgiving holiday - like a colorful foil-covered chocolate turkey:
And these adorable turkey-decorated chocolate buttercreams:
Yes, those will work just fine for me, thank you very much.
What will YOU have?
:)

Pumpkin Pie
Ah, good old pumpkin pie, the traditional Thanksgiving dessert.
Is it traditional at YOUR family dinner?
Do you ALWAYS have it?
And I mean - whether or not you like it personally, is it always available for everyone else?
We like it (my husband LOVES it) and I don't ever make it except for at the holidays. I'm not sure why, I just don't.
How many pies do YOU make?
Is it traditional in your family to have a number of different types?
What kinds?
And for how many people?
We are generally a fairly small group for dinner, so I do not normally make more than one.
I love apple, and I wouldn't mind having other kinds, but it's really not a good idea.
The last thing I need around here are two or more leftover pies hanging around, tempting me.
Pie isn't something I have an easy time resisting, you see.
Neither is anything else sweet, now that I think about it.
Maybe I'd better not think about it too much.........

Turkeys
Just some turkeys for you today!
First up - this cutie by illustrator John Alcorn, from The Fireside Book Of Songs. I love this one:
A Hallmark honeycomb turkey package, found this year at a thrift store.
He's a cute little guy, too::
I found this book at a rummage sale downtown. Couldn't resist it:
This placemat below is another vintage Hallmark item:
And here's a turkey on the table:
From "The Modern Family Cookbook" by Meta Given, published in 1953.
I love turkey; I can hardly wait for Thanksgiving!
We always get a huge one so that we will have plenty of leftovers.
Yum.
Less than one week away.........

"Junkee" Jewelry
Lori and I got to spend a wonderful weekend with a friend in Sparks and Reno, Nevada.
One of my favorite stops that we made (in Reno) was the Junkee Clothing Exchange, a delightful shop that carries "Recycled Clothing and Affordable Antiques".
Check out their cool marquee:
The jewelry display in one of the glass cases in the store is the most fabulous array I have EVER seen.
I loved the vintage clocks, too:
Bangles and bracelets and brooches:
Such a beautiful, colorful array:
Seriously - I was enthralled with this display.
I simply HAD to try and snap some photos.
I told one of the gals who worked there that I could stand there and stare at it all day!
Glorious vintage jewelry in virtually every color of the rainbow!
Whoever created this arrangement is surely a very talented person, and they certainly do have some seriously gorgeous pieces for sale!
I couldn't get a name or a booth number out of the people. Just walk in the door on the "antiques" side of the store, and go straight back and to the left.
I'm sorry my pictures aren't that great.
But I think you get the general idea.
It was splendid, to say the very least.
