Vintage Bobbsey Twins Paper Dolls

Sis Lori here with a recent cute find -
these adorable vintage Bobbsey Twins paper books with the paperboard dolls and their wardrobes:
Some of them are pretty glitzy, with stars and glitter, etc.
My fave is the pink apron-covered frock with the flower bouquet.
We even have a cowgirl costume:
A lot of the boy's outfits have a flocked texture.
I also really like his robe here, looks comfy!!!
They're all pretty cute, aren't they?

Vintage Wallpaper Books, Part Three

This may be the last part in my series, or I may get crazy and decide to add another post one of these days - who knows?
Today, we have images from yet another of the vintage wallpaper books I found.
This one is "Nancy Warren Wallpaper", and the book has no date.
We will begin with geraniums:
Yellow roses:
Clover.....
Strawberries....
Hunting dogs:
These remind me of vintage barkcloth - stylized calla lilies in two different colorways:
Love both of these ...
White hibiscus flowers:
Lovely roses:
And that's it!
I hope you've enjoyed seeing these - I enjoyed sharing them with you!
And finding them.
Finding them was pretty good, too.

One Fabulous LP Cover

I paid more for this vintage LP than I usually do at thrift stores.
But I had to have it.
Chuck Mangione Concert, Land Of Make Believe, with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.
Cover concept, design and layout by Robert L. Smith.
I don't believe I had ever seen it before, and I thought I heard it calling my name.
Seriously.
In a tiny little voice......barely audible, you know:
"Oh, Heidi.....buy me....,please..."
"Please....I need to go home with only you...."
You betcha.
No problem.
I framed it and I have it hanging on the wall.
It's my new favorite,
and it makes me smile every time I look at it.

Ole! - Because I TOLD You I Was Obsessed With It

Yes, it's another post about Stanley's Ole Furniture.
I first wrote about it back in 2010, and I have done a number of posts since then.
I write a new one every single time I find another picture of it anywhere.
But today, we are going to take another, closer look at my favorite advertisement (from 1968), with all of the fabulous pieces that were pictured in this little girl's room.
I cannot even imagine having a room like this!
You can see the unusual chair in the picture below (I think it was from Craig's List).
You also see the smallest nightstand  they made and the low chest - these two are NOT in the room above:
I enlarged the small photo that was featured in the advertisement, and in this picture you can how rearrangement of the same furnishings could still suit this room after the little girl grows into a teenager.
(I'll take it - all of it! Either configuration - I'm not picky.)
She moved the furniture all around, put her twin bed into the alcove and added a beaded curtain - super cool.
Oh, and now she has a TV and a phone in her room, too.
Nice, very nice:
You see the headboard and foot board for the twin bed in the picture below, along with that great standing mirror, and also a highboy chest that is not in the ad room.
They had MANY different pieces available, you see.
You may or may not remember that the only piece that I actually own is the twin bed, but in the yellow.
I found it at a thrift store.
It is still but a dream of mine to find more pieces of this furniture that I adore.
Next, just for fun, let's focus on the accessories in this room, shall we?
That looks like a cute trash can there on the floor.
She has my colorful Counterpoint cardboard boxes all over, cute mushrooms, a cat that looks very interesting,
and what appears to be a sweet hand-painted wooden doll:
One more shot of a bunch of the furniture (oh, be still my heart!), with a desk and chair, the twin bed again,
and one of the larger nightstands that has a drawer and a shelf:
Back to the things on her shelves.
Looks like that could be a Gemma Taccogna bust up on top, there.
There's also a fabulous wooden Pinocchio figure, two gorgeous pincushion ladies (I LOVE those!), more boxes, flowers and flower pots, a cool pig and a bird:
Now, this next picture, below, is something I was really excited to find! An old ad that actually shows some prices.
I wanted this furniture SO badly back when I was about 12 or 13!
There was NO way on earth that my family could ever have afforded to buy special furniture for my room.
We hardly ever had any new furniture, period - and if we got something, it sure wasn't going to be a room full of new furnishings for me!
We simply didn't have that kind of money.
Oh, but a girl could DREAM!
And dream, I did.
Here's another photo of the desk with a hutch added, and a chair, below.
There were at least three different styles of chairs.
Here, again the desk and hutch:
Close-up on a chest of drawers:
And the double dresser with the vanity mirror added on top - not a very clear photo, but still......
I'm still dreaming about it, quite honestly.
Maybe some day............
Oh - and if you haven't seen my other posts about this Ole furniture,  and you're interested - well, just enter "Ole" in the "Search" box, and you should be able to find most of them.
I feel compelled to add  here that I am fairly certain that my own series of posts that I have written here on this blog feature more pictures, ads and information about this fabulous vintage Stanley furniture than you will find anywhere else on the web.
There have been many people who have discovered my posts over the years when they have searched for this furniture, and who have written to me about it - and perhaps have gone on to post the pictures of the ads, etc. from this blog elsewhere.
I have gathered vintage magazines and books over the years, so it took me a while to gather all that I have shared here. I honestly think I probably have amassed the largest collection of original advertisements, etc. for this line of furniture than any other single person.
But I have done it all  because I am obsessed with the Ole Collection by Stanley.
Completely.
And I have been for 48 years.

(Quite a few people have written to me or commented on my original post over the years to ask questions about the furniture. I don't have any information about how to price it for sale. It is worth whatever someone might be willing to pay. However, if you do have some for sale, and you wish to publish your e-mail or phone number so that others may contact you, I am willing to publish your comments, so that when people search for the furniture and find this blog, they are free to get in touch with you. What I cannot do, however, is offer advice about buying or selling, nor can I act as a liaison between buyers and sellers. But I do thank you all sincerely for your interest in the furniture that I love so much!)

Swing Thing Stationery

I walked through a thrift store in San Andreas and looked all around the entire place.
It's unusual for me to leave without buying anything at all, but I was on my way out the door with nothing this time.
Then I spotted this:
Seriously, RIGHT next to the door, and yet I had not seen it when I walked in.
Totally groovy long vintage notepaper tablet from the sixties.
"Swing Thing Stationery" - can you dig it?
I do, I most certainly do.
With three different colors of the paper remaining inside - pink:
Blue:
Yellow:
It was twenty cents!
And I love it.
I found one image on the web of the box and envelopes that it came with originally:
Sure, I'd love to have the envelopes, too, but I'll settle for what I've got.
Neato.
As always, I believe it was waiting there just for me.

Saying Goodbye to August: More Vintage August Postcards

Good morning, Tina here. August is getting ready to leave us.  It has been a good month, not too many days over 100 degrees here. Very dry, unfortunately, but I got to share my birthday since my sisters came to visit, so I am well satisfied with the joy this month had to give.

The postcard above celebrates the fruit and flowers the month of August can share with us. Here in Kelsey it was nectarines. We had a lot. They were small, but delicious. The end batch became a wonderful cobbler.

The antique postcard above from 1908 has the same calendar as our year 2015. I have it set as my desktop background until next week.

I guess this isn't considered a horoscope, above, since it is for the entire month of August.

An eclipse of the sun in 1932. The dog seems ready to guard in the almost-night.

Celebrating a homecoming to Milwaukee in 1909.

New Hampshire is visited by a snow storm in August. No wonder they are called the White Mountains!

Three horoscope postcards. Does your birthday fall within these days?

Lots of information here.

Hope you enjoy the last week of August, 2015. It will never come again.

Patterns From The Past: Cute Simplicity Dresses - 9565 and 9617

Our dress patterns from the past for today are from Simplicity, and in the photo below you see them pictured on a page in the December 1971 issue of Simplicity Fashion News.
That's Susan Dey on the left, and I need help with the name for the other model - if anyone knows?
Here is the front of pattern number 9617, so cute whether or not you trim it with ribbon as shown on the model above, and the purple dress on the pattern:
I like the old-fashioned look of the two long dresses, and their hairstyles are cute, too:
And here is pattern number 9565, as worn by Miss Dey at the top of this post:
The long version of this dress looks like something I may have even had back then. I wore things like that when I worked at Sierra Nevada House in Coloma.
It's especially cute with the rick rack, but then I'm pretty much a sucker for rick rack!
 Susan, you look adorable!

Virgo Time

It's Virgo time on my super-cool vintage Zodiac calendar:
Monday August 24th, 1970 - oh, I mean 2015.
And here's the stuff I stuck up above it on my hanger clips:
I was kind of in a hurry, so I had to grab what I could easily find - at least I got some Peter Max in there! (The colorful circles and the sun):
The next page will be featured a month from today, on September 24th.
Calendar from Determined Productions, artwork by Bruce and Ann Butte.
