Bates Bedspreads And Curtains

I found this great advertisement for Bates in a magazine from 1942. They made the prettiest woven cotton bedspreads and curtains. We used to have Disney ones on our beds when we were little. I think my sister still has one - it is MUCH the worse for wear these days.

This is a bedspread I've had for years - if you click on the advertisement, above, you will see that this is the same pattern in a different colorway. I thought that was pretty cool when I discovered it! This tulip design is on a narrow curtain panel I have. I'm not positive it is a Bates brand, but the style is very similar to theirs. And here is an advertisement from 1962 for a totally different style in white - still nice, still well made - just different :
I'm still hoping to find more of these lovely and colorful woven cotton blankets. Wish me luck!

Love this post. Love the bedspreads. Yes, have the Disneyland bedspread packed away somewhere. It is worn and tired but brings back great memories. I guess we must have used them a lot! Love T

Oooh! My grandma had one of the white ones just like that picture. I loved it! I remember being really really little, and she had a big, high bed that you had to use a step stool to get up on. I'd climb up there and lay in the middle of the bed and run my hands back and forth across that bedspread. The "bumps" felt so neat! Also, I liked it if I fell asleep on it and I had marks on my face when I woke up.

Kari- Little memories like those are the kind of thing I hope my little blog brings back to my readers. I love that.

How funny to have the same one as in the advert. I love old tablecloth advertisements, they are the reason I buy old magazines!

I love seeing these ads. I found my first two Bates coverlets last year - they are so soft and heavy and wonderful - great for naps.

Well, I found a Bates bedspread a while back. It was a beautiful light blue thick one with a gorgeous design in it. Can't remember what the pattern was called, but it was in perfect condition. I bought it for $6 and sold it for $50. Now I wish I still had it!

BTW, how do you make it so people can click to make your pics bigger?
Thanks!
