Happy Birthday to Patty Duke!

Birthday wishes go out today to the wonderful and extremely talented Patty Duke. Let me just say that I LOVE her. I have ever since the The Patty Duke Show. Her performance in The Miracle Worker was beyond compare - I think she ranks right up there at the top with the premier actresses of our time.
I have three Patty Duke books - the two published during her early television career, and her autobiography.
I love that she went on to play the part of Helen Keller's teacher Anne Sullivan in 1979, with Melissa Gilbert as Helen - that one was fabulous, too. And the story of her life and her struggle with manic depression. I simply will watch ANYTHING and EVERYTHING she does and has done (and will do!) in her decades-long career. In fact, I'd like to see it all, if I possibly can. I'd love to watch The Patty Duke Show again!
Happy birthday to you, Anna Marie Duke - I think you're simply marvelous!

I found "Call Me Anna" at a thrift store a few months ago, haven't read it yet. We just saw Patty in a Christmas movie a few days ago, it is a few years old, she was a guardian angel to an aunt who was on the lam with her niece and nephew and of course found true love and had an instant family. I love Patty Duke as well. She just always seemed so real in her acting. I read her book a few years back, but I think it would be nice to re-visit. Thanks for the reminder.

p.s. I still just love your blog, it always makes me smile =)

"but Patty's only seen the sights a girl can see from Brooklyn Heights ... what a crazy pair!" I LOVED the Patty Duke Show. And that song will be going through my head the rest of the week, I'm sure.

When I was a kid in the early 70's, watching the Patty Duke show in reruns, I had a crush on both Cathy and Patty!

I was amazed years later to learn of the personal struggles she went through during the filming of that show.

She never let it show and was always a joy to watch.

Dave - I agree, she certainly never let it show. And yes, Patty and Cathy were both so lovable! She's just so absolutely great!
