Then And Now # 108: See's Decorated Eggs For Easter

Here's wishing all of you a lovely Easter Sunday, and if you are very lucky, perhaps the Easter Bunny may have left you a beautifully decorated egg from See's Candies.
This advertisement from 1974 shows you what they looked like back "Then":

The lovely picture above was part of an insert that came in our newspaper, along with a coupon.
 I wasn't able to make it to a See's Candies shop in order to use the coupon, unfortunately!

Then And Now #107: Bisquick

Today's post features that versatile mix known as Bisquick.
Bisquick has been around for a good, long time!
Here's an advertisement from 1937.
I love that they're using the gorgeous Franciscan dishes! I have a small collection of that set (sorry I haven't time to try and share a photo of it with you today!) - but isn't it lovely in the aqua color?

And another one, this time - we have Bisquick biscuits in a basket. (Say that real fast five times!) from 1952:

And here we have two more vintage ads; these are both from 1954.
Pineapple Upside Down Cake looks pretty good.
It was one of our Daddy's favorite cakes:

Ooohh, and here's an ad for both Bisquick and Reddi-Wip.
Yes, Strawberry Shortcake looks good, too.

I found this cookbook at a thrift store, and I was sure I didn't have it:

I do not remember seeing the Whole Wheat Baking Mix, and I don't know what year this advertisement dates from:

But the package I have in my pantry right now touts that it is "Heart Smart",
so, I mean - that's perfect for February, right?

(So I added to my stacks of other cute vintage recipe file boxes I've already been collecting over the years.)
I decided I needed to make a recipe out of one of those cookbooks.
So I ended up with Peach Cobbler:

Then And Now #106: Jergens Lotion, Revisited

I wrote a post about Jergens Lotion seven years ago on this blog, and today I am revisiting that post, and that subject.
Here is another of the old advertisements, this one from 1956:

And here is one for their "Extra Dry Skin Formula", from 1970".
Notice that by that time, the glass bottle had a pump dispenser?
More practical, definitely, for everyday use.

I ditched that glass shoe bottle that I showed in my previous post some time ago, but I still had this great old bottle that I've owned for many years:

I was able to take a pump from an old bottle of soap and it fit onto my "Cream Of Almond Lotion" bottle perfectly!

Original Scent with "Cherry Almond Essence" will always be my favorite.
Here is how the bottle looks now:

 I love using vintage containers for anything I possibly can, because then I don't mind them sitting out, and they needn't be hidden away in a cupboard or cabinet.

Now I have a pretty bottle in my bathroom with the Original Scent lotion inside (instead of the new plastic container) - and I've also got my (practical) pump dispenser.

Perfect.

Then And Now #105: Let's Get Everything "Spic And Span"

Today's post is about Spic And Span , which has been around for many, many years.
I found this old advertisement for it - and would you just LOOK how happy she is to be cleaning her painted walls in her pinafore and her green polka-dotted dress!

Here's another old example of an old box:

 "Cleans Painted Walls, Woodwork, Linoleum"
"Faster, Easier"
"No Rinsing! No Wiping!"
And that's true, actually.
It used to be the only thing I ever used to clean my floors, with my old rag mop and galvanized bucket - you know, the kind that has the cup-like place inside at the top to push your mop down in and squeeze the water out?
As a matter of fact, I still had a box of it under the sink at our old house:

I can't find it anymore. Not at all.
I was kind of bummed when I went looking for it, and saw that it was no longer in the stores.
Maybe that's why it tickled me when I found this measuring cup at a thrift store, complete with a label still attached:

I never added it to my laundry; didn't even know that was a "thing"!
But if I could find the powder, I might get out that old bucket again.
Wouldn't want to use the measuring cup, though - because I don't want to get it wet or wash it, as I'd like to keep that old label intact!
Here are two other old boxes side by side:

They may still make the powder, but they don't sell it around here!
And no, I'm not going to go buying it online, or anything like that.
I just wanted to be able to go into a store and buy it off the shelf, like I used to do.
 Don't think that's gonna happen.

So it comes in a liquid formula, too - and I haven't seen that, either.

If I DO find some, though - I will surely try it!
Because I just always liked it.
I liked the smell of it, and I liked mopping my floor with it.
But a lot of my favorite products have disappeared, and I know I just have to live with that fact.
(But I don't have to LIKE it.)

Then And Now # 104: Hawaiian Punch

I don't know about you, but I like Hawaiian Punch.
 Always have.
There was a time when it only came in cans like these:

 "Let's have a party".
Sounds good to me!
Or you could buy it in a can containing frozen concentrate, like this:

And when "Punchy" came along, they put him on the can labels:

Fruit juicy, Hawaiian Punch:

You DO know what's about to happen to this poor guy, right?

They added different flavors, but it's just the original red that I like.
Here's an ad for canisters of powdered drink mix (sorry for the bad image - but you get the idea):

And an advertisement for book covers you could send for (in 1974):

"How about a nice Hawaiian Punch?"

And of course, "Now", you can buy it in plastic bottles like these:

Or you can buy the Sugar Free "Singles To Go", like I do.
I actually like to add it to some water in a bottle, and then I just leave it in the refrigerator and take a few swigs every now and then.

That might sound weird, but that's what I do.

Then And Now #103: Kleenex Boutique Tissues

 Kleenex Brand "Boutique" tissues in the upright box were first introduced in 1967.
The box seen below - Kleenex Boutique Prints - is from 1968:

"Kleenex Boutique Prints", full size tissues, for use in smaller spaces where you might not have room for a regular, rectangular box of Kleenex:

 Paisley Kleenex and toilet tissue?!
Now, THAT'S an idea I can really get "behind", so to speak.
I love it!

And in this next advertisement (from the 1970's, I think) featuring the lovely Lucy Angle, we have Boutique Blooms, the new Kleenex Boutique Wildflowers:

Wildflowers in wild new colors, like coral and violet:

And there were also these "Razzle Dazzling" colors in the "Boutique Collection",
Hot Pink, Bold Gold, True Blue, and Avocado Green:

Bold Gold is seen below with an absolutely fabulous vintage pin cushion lady. (I want her!!)
And, of course, we have the toilet tissue in Avocado Green and True Blue:

 There are lots and lots of pretty ones, and I especially love the holiday designs at Christmas time. The rest of the year, choose a design to fit in anywhere in your home.
