My Turkey(s)

One afternoon a couple of weeks ago, I spent some time coloring this turkey.
It's from my "Fat Cat's Cookbook" (written by Karen Whyte and illustrated by Donna Sloan) that I showed you back in this post.
I had a million other things I should have been doing.
But they didn't get done that day.

Here's how the turkey page looked before I started:

 I think I'm going to try doing another one in crazy colors that make no sense for a turkey - simply because I can.
And, just for fun, since I'm on the subject - here's a picture of my turkey and autumn-themed pins.

I believe I have every color that Hallmark made of the vintage turkey pins.
(And, as you can see, I do have two of the same color.)
I've always liked those little turkeys!
I like the others, too - they are a nice little assortment.

That's it for today - just me and my turkeys!

Mr. Jolly's Market In November

It's November at Mr. Jolly's Sidewalk Market, and Mr. Jolly says,, "Oh, dear! It's getting cold again!"
(Here in our neck of the woods, it isn't quite cool enough yet for my taste.)
"Oh, dear! What shall I have for Thanksgiving dinner?"
What a silly question!
I'm not worried about it yet, but that's probably just because like most people I know, we pretty much have the same things every year.
So not a lot of thought goes into it - it's more about the TIME and preparations.
At least for me, the MENU is not something I have to worry about!
It's basically set in stone.

"Oh, dear! I must get a pumpkin for pumpkin pies!"
Not me - I like the recipe on the Libby's Pumpkin can label just fine, thank you very much.

And that adorable kitty cat I like so much every month is just glad he's "not a turkey"!

Thanksgiving Decorations

Today's post consists of snapshots of my Thanksgiving decorations.

Turkeys, turkeys, everywhere!

There might be a chicken or two thrown in for good measure:

I always change things up a little every year.

And I've got to make sure I can fit in any new (or, "new" old) turkeys I come across throughout the year when I am hitting the thrift stores.
I like to tuck my autumnal-themed vintage hankies into my turkey planters:

 I found the brown one on the left, below in October:

And the honeycomb decorations you see in the next picture are new this year, as well:

I love the way they look up on top of our corner built-in hutch!
Gobble, gobble.

See's For Thanksgiving

How about some See's Candies for Thanksgiving?
Come on - why not?
They're a good idea for every holiday.
And also for every day that isn't a holiday.
I found this See's advertisement from 1977 in an issue of the Home Magazine that was a supplement to The Los Angeles Times.

"A Family Treat For Thanksgiving" - I like the sound of that:

They have some sweet chocolates  (and other candies) available just for the Thanksgiving holiday - like a colorful foil-covered chocolate turkey:

And these adorable turkey-decorated chocolate buttercreams:

Yes, those will work just fine for me, thank you very much.

Pumpkin Pie

Ah, good old pumpkin pie, the traditional Thanksgiving dessert.
Is it traditional at YOUR family dinner?
 Do you ALWAYS have it?
And I mean - whether or not you like it personally, is it always available for everyone else?
We like it (my husband LOVES it) and I don't ever make it except for at the holidays. I'm not sure why, I just don't.

How many pies do YOU make?
Is it traditional in your family to have a number of different types?
What kinds?
And for how many people?
 We are generally a fairly small group for dinner, so I do not normally make more than one.
I love apple, and I wouldn't mind having other kinds, but it's really not a good idea.
The last thing I need around here are two or more leftover pies hanging around, tempting me.

Pie isn't something I have an easy time resisting, you see.
Neither is anything else sweet, now that I think about it.
Maybe I'd better not think about it too much.........

Turkeys

Just some turkeys for you today!

Holiday Help From Betty Crocker's Party Book

I found another copy of this great little book at a thrift store a couple of weeks ago. I already have one in my collection, so this one will be going to the shop:

Count Your Blessings This Thanksgiving Day

Here's wishing all of you the greatest of blessings and thankfulness, as we gather together to celebrate this special holiday with family and friends.

 With the exception of the addition of whatever Thanksgiving decorations I manage to glean from thrift shops and the like throughout the year, my Thanksgiving decorations do not change a whole lot from year to year.

Turkeys of all shapes and sizes adorn the dining room buffet. 

The two little turkeys below were a lucky find this year ; they pair sweetly with my little Gurley pilgrim:

 The huge hand -painted  turkey platter made in Italy seen in the next photo is my favorite - it belonged to my in-laws and will remain in this house always - the star of the show! (And I am also rather fond of my large Salvation Army ceramic turkey you see in front of it):

 The one below is a pretty good match for that one - it's another find from a few months back. It actually is a covered dish - I could serve gravy in it, I suppose:

The little turkey salt and pepper shakers in the final photo were found at Sur La Table last year after Thanksgiving, and were marked down 75% or more. Lori bought a pair, too:
