More Lovely Ladies

You will see, I believe, the similarities in these ladies with their simply drawn facial features in the deco style that I adore. First up, a lovely business card on the right, and the image at left is from an old McCall's magazine subscription card:
I saved this tag from some article of clothing I bought back in the 80's or so, as I recall:
And here is Rita in her hat, on a vintage playing card:
And another playing card with another pretty lady and her elaborate fan of feathers:
More feathers on this framed card - with a real feather in matching chartreuse. The card was new - but I found the image so attractive that I saved it, and much later found the perfect frame for it a dollar store:
I decided I just had to include this profile photograph of another lovely lady - my mother-in-law, displayed in one of my vintage art deco frames. She fits right in with my deco ladies, in the right time period, too - this was taken in the early 1930's:

Bozo At The Circus

This vintage record album belonged to my husband and his brother when they were little. It is full of pages like the ones you see below, with beautiful bright colors depicting the animals and performers at the circus:






Years ago, on a TV show about decorating, I saw a segment where someone had taken these and framed them and they were hanging on the wall in a child's room. I admit they looked fabulous, but I could never cut up this lovely album. It is in perfect condition, and dated 1946.
(I had trouble scanning the pages - what you see are not the complete illustrated pages, but rather a portion of each. The book contains 20 of these pages.)
The colors on them are wonderful, don't you think?

The Rest Of The Deer Lamps

So - I showed you some of my deer lamps in an earlier post, and today - the rest of the story (I miss Paul Harvey). This one has been featured in an earlier photo - December 2007, I think, but here it is again in all it's glory. My friend Tammy gave me this one, and I began my collection. This is the only deer table lamp I have with it's original shade - a fiberglass beauty. Needless to say, I LOVE this lamp!

A gorgeous TV lamp - I showed you my brown one in the earlier post. Fiberglass here, too:

This is a TV lamp also. These sit up on the top of our huge entertainment center. I have them on a timer so they turn on in the evening. I call it mood lighting.
There is a green one:
And one in a light brown or tan color:
I do love the chartreuse pottery and this lamp with the leaping deer is fabulous, but I haven't quite found the perfect shade for it - yet:
I think somebody made this one. A small table lamp, it has a painted wood base, and the two deer don't really match - but it's still cute. I like it, and it serves it's purpose:

A Few Weekend Finds

My sister came for a visit again, and here are a few of the things I found at a church rummage sale, yard sales and a couple of thrift shops. A pretty original painting - I love the colors!

Sheet music- in perfect condition if you don't count the place where they stuck the gosh-darned price sticker- Grrrrr!
Now, I would have bought this album just for the great cover art, but I really like The Manhattan Transfer. First song on side 1: Tuxedo Junction - one of my favorites by ANY artist! Love their version:
Pair of pretty embroidered and crochet-trimmed doilies, two woven straw flower pins. The pin clasps on the back tell me they are vintage, and I really like them. They would be great pinned onto a vintage straw hat. The fabric behind everything is a nice large sample piece that would make a nice pillow or cover the top of a small bench:
A few assorted jewelry pieces, including a great tassel necklace. The lid is for a nice frosted glass vanity jar -the bottom wouldn't fit on my scanner!
We had fun, and I am happy with my little treasures.

Make-Up

Shown below in another vintage frame from my collection is a card that's an "oldie" from Mary Engelbreit (1979). I told you I have been a fan of hers for a LONG time! Let's Make Up:
I found this cute pin at a thrift store for $1.00. She's putting on her make-up, too. There really is a little mirror, not sure if you can tell in the picture:
And I found this make-up bag here in the house inside of a drawer. Never used, I think it's from the 70's or so:
I love this Norman Rockwell Post cover. The guy on the left reminds me of Stan Laurel. Sorry I couldn't fit the whole thing on my scanner - you should never miss a detail in Rockwell's work. That's a plunger under his arm. Did you notice the lovely Ransburg wastebasket!? And the poor little Pekingese is going "What on earth are you two doing at Mom's vanity table?"
I used to always put my make-up on at my vanity table, an old waterfall style with a huge round mirror. I still have it but it wouldn't fit in the bedroom here at this house. I bought it in Sebastopol years ago. I kind of miss it.

Cakes I Have Loved

Well, okay - this first one isn't actually a cake- but I wanted to include it. It is a Chocolate Cinnamon Torte, and I found the recipe in a 1963 Good Housekeeping Cookbook. I made it at least twice MANY years ago. It's different - but I liked it, even though it was a fair amount of trouble. The layers are like a crisp cookie, and each one had to be pressed into a cake dish and baked.
That's chocolate whipped cream on the top. Mmmmm.
I remember making this one - Angel Food Waldorf - when I was quite young, also. I left off the slivered almonds on the top. But yes, I do love my chocolate whipped cream! I saw this old magazine ad and I went - "I remember that cake!"
Oh, this one from Betty Crocker's Cookbook published in 1969 has been a real favorite over the years- I have made it a LOT - starting back when I was a teenager:
And I used to make this one fairly often, too - from one of our favorite cookbooks (Farm Journal Christmas Cookbook, 1970):
Check this one out! I haven't tried this one yet - just found it recently in a 1938 magazine - but I think I might HAVE to try it!
If you have noticed that I said I "used to" a lot in this post - that's because I just can't bake all this stuff like I "used to" - WAY too tempting for me. See, I've got a little problem with sweets.....
I love them WAY too much- and let's just say, when I get on the scale - it shows!
Not good.

Some Of Our Old 45's - Part 2

Tuna, Anyone?

My husband was watching a show on the Discovery Channel about tuna fishing about a week or so ago - and I just happened to have all these tuna labels that came with a big lot of labels on eBay, so the combination of those two things (plus a few others) inspired this post today! Labels:

I like to eat tuna with cottage cheese, and we love to have tuna sandwiches for lunch or with soup, for dinner. I like my tuna sandwich with dill pickle mixed in , and mayonnaise, and maybe a little lettuce. I also LOVE a good tuna melt - for me- sourdough bread and cheddar cheese with tuna salad, grilled with butter. Yum!! What do YOU like?
