More Vintage Vera

 We'll start things off today with this vintage (1979) Vera Neumann advertisement for Schumacher fabrics, rugs, and companion wallcoverings.
I'd like to get my hands on some of those! (Rugs?! Cool.)

 And next, I'll show you three vintage Vera Neumann scarves I found all on the same day at thrift shops.
Love the colors and the abstract design on this one:

I also love this next one, but I am going to have to see whether the spots come out.
 I've had mixed results with scarves - unfortunately, sometimes the colors run when you carefully hand-wash them, and they are essentially ruined.
 I hate it when that happens, obviously:

The last one is that sort of semi-sheer, chiffon-type of fabric.
 They tend to get snagged easily.
 It's pretty, though:

What's Penny Wearing? #110 More "Thrifted" Combinations

I love finding nice (and very inexpensive) clothing and accessories at the thrift shops.
 You know - things I will actually WEAR?!
Like this pretty orange rayon sleeveless top, and a long fringed tropical scarf to go with it:

 The fringed hibiscus scarf below should make the transition into fall fairly easily....

 ....especially when paired with this nice beige linen jacket , which was also a thrift shop purchase:

I found a nice, soft, Gap denim shirt, and this scarf I "thrifted" a while ago  pairs nicely with it:

You can't say that I haven't "got the blues":

And still more combos for when the weather cools down a bit - this gorgeous scarf looks great with a sweater I already had (it was a Christmas gift from my daughter-in-law):

 I love the way they look together:

  And I found a very nice red corduroy shirt from J.Jill and a great plaid scarf to wear with it:

 I love corduroy, and I don't have a lot of red things.
 I thought it was pretty cool that I found the scarf on the very same day.

Whatever The Time Of Year: I Love Christmas Finds

I found this cute little snowman, and I also found the trees.
He isn't perfect, but doesn't that just add to his charm?

I'm loving the cover of this vintage Mitch Miller record:

I was delighted to find this sweet little angel.
You know I love me some vintage felt-and-sequins on hand-crafted Christmas items!

I always pick up cute vintage Christmas music and song books:

  I found some Shiny Brites and more at a church rummage sale:

 This card file box is larger than a standard recipe box.
This is the top:

It looks like somebody decoupaged vintage embossed Christmas card cut-outs onto it after painting the box.
I love the colorful angels on the top and the front:

And the Santa Claus album cover, below was just that - the cover, with no record inside:

It was too great to pass up!
I love using album covers as backdrops for my Christmas decorations anyway, so who cares?
(It's not as though I have any shortage of Christmas music around here, believe me!)

Thrift Finds With Pretty Embroidery

I really do love gorgeous, colorful embroidery.
I found the piece below recently - haven't yet decided what I will do with it. It's much too small to be a collar, but it might look nice as a picture frame:

I picked up this bright belt as well:

 And I also found a whole bag full of lovely vintage embroidered pieces at a thrift store in Jackson, too.
This is a pillow cover:

Some of the pieces need additional stitching in order to complete them (that isn't a stain, it's a shadow or something):

  The one below is finished with a nice border around the edges:

Honestly, it was half-price day at the store where I found these, and with all of the people who were shopping (plus the fact that I got there hours after they opened), I could not believe this bag of lovely linens had been overlooked - or passed over - by everyone else!
I am glad it was left there for me.
And I'm glad that, apparently, most of the people who are at the thrift stores are not looking for the same types of things that I am.
Works for me!

A Moonflower grows in Kelsey... finally

I've tried many times to grow a moonflower vine from seeds.  Never any luck. They just would not come up. Finally this year I got some vines, and now even a couple of flowers! I took the photos, below, one bud is ready to open this evening, and one flower was tired and fading from being open all last night. This vine is growing in a pot with a small Japanese maple tree. 

I don't know why they grew this year...? Was it the heat?  The drought? I don't know but I am happy to finally see some of these gorgeous big blooms.

Happy Birthday To Linda Purl!

Today is Linda Purl's birthday.
 She's actually the same age as my sister Lori. The picture you see below was taken 40 years ago.
(She's still gorgeous, by the way.)

 I've always liked her! From back when she was on Happy Days....

 .......up through and beyond her role on Matlock:

 I was tickled to see her on an episode of "Cold Case" (which I LOVED) back in 2005 (I hadn't seen her in a while), and also more recently on "Major Crimes". She's currently appearing in "Reckless" on CBS - in fact, I just saw her on an episode this past Sunday night.
She sings, too - did you know that?

She was married to Desi Arnaz, Jr.  briefly, back in 1980.

Let's start off today with this Sbicca advertisement for the red, white and blue.

Labor Day does signal the end of summer, even though we still have about three more weeks of it, technically.
Remember when school never started before Labor Day?
 Not any more.
So, keep on having "Summer Fun", if you possibly can......
